There’s no thread for Calhoun Honors this year so I thought I’d start one. Who all is applying? When do decisions generally come out?
Around Feb 15
I applied to CU Honors, as mentioned I heard they send out an email on Feb 15.
how difficult is it to get into the program, I read the info, but seems like a lot of students will meet that criteria and they only take a handful of students it seems
@Jackier Seems difficult but I don’t think they release an acceptance rate. My understanding is that the essays and ECs are what make applicants stand out from each other.
They only accept about 200 a year.
15 days!
My son wated to apply honors but thought just getting in was awesome. He did. Can he apply as a sophmore. Would it be easier or harder ?
Yes, he can actually apply following his first semester. This is from the Honors College portion of the website… “The Honors College welcomes applications to the Calhoun Honors College from students currently enrolled at Clemson who are NOT members of the Honors College. Applications are accepted during both the fall and spring semesters. To be eligible for admission, current students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher by the end of the semester in which they apply.”
If your son is interested, I would suggest applying after first semester. This would both help maximize his involvement if accepted to Honors and ensure the application occurs. I know of one excellent student who did not apply to Honors and told me it was one of his few regrets about his time at Clemson.
When we went to an info session , I believe that they said that they would not accept applications after sophomore year because of the requirements of the program.
For anyone interested, I recently found out that Calhoun received 1600 applications and are accepting 300-350 students this year.
@Baxter126 thanks for that info!!! Im so nervous
Hang in there and relax. Notifications don’t go out until the 15th.
Calhoun Honors College decisions are issued first by decision letter posted in the applicant’s ApplyWeb account. Decision are available on or before February 15th. A hard copy decision letter will follow the online notification by about one to two weeks.
Clemson Honors accepted approximately 55% of their applicants in fall 2016.
Enrolled students at Clemson can apply for Honors admission as long as they have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and at least four semesters left in their curriculum path. Enrolled students can apply during their first semester at Clemson to hopefully gain admission as early as the second semester. The application for continuing students is roughly the same as the incoming freshman application, however, the review process does not include any high school materials such as SAT scores or high school transcripts.
