I have been an honors/AP student my entire life. I don’t want that to end when it comes to college, but I’m not quite sure of the added workload and such that Calhoun Honors College brings. I absolutely love Clemson and I am definitely applying in the fall. I have a 33 ACT, 4.4 GPA & am #1 in my class so I don’t think getting in will be a problem. I am more concerned with how being in the Honors College would coincide with majoring in Architecture. If anyone has information on or experience regarding this please share! Thank you!!
Good for you! What great achievements. My DS has just finished freshman year at Clemson in the CHC. He is not an architecture major, but is doubling in eng/econ, so keeps plenty busy! The number of courses you take as general honors is pretty manageable – I believe it is one per semester beginning freshman year and six in total. There is also a “departmental honors” program. The honors classes are supposed to be the same “difficulty” as non-honors. My son has indicated he does think those classes are a bit more challenging, but he took three his first semester and did well.
Here are the requirements:
To be awarded the Certificate of Achievement in General Honors, the following requirements must be satisfied:
Completion of a minimum of 18 credit hours* from three or more groups (see below)**; At least three hours from three or more groups (see below); and
At least three hours in each of three or more subjects (e.g., ENGL, MTHS)
A cumulative grade point average of 3.40 or higher on all coursework taken at Clemson (non-honors as well as honors courses).
A grade of A or B in all courses taken to fulfill the requirements of General Honors.
Completion of all University requirements for graduation.
Good luck and Go Tigers!
