Calhoun Honors College

Just received an e-mail that I was accepted into the Honors program.

Did anybody else receive the same news?

Congratulations!

(We received an email today letting us know that my son did not get in.)

congrats!!

My daughter received an email that she was accepted into Calhoun, but her scholarship money from Auburn continues to grow and so she will decline Clemson.

I got in!!!

To people who got in: would you mind if I asked what kind of stats you guys had? GPA, SATs, etc.

eastikop, below are my stats. I posted this in another thread for Clemson awhile back.

accpeted into Calhoun, OOS, 2280 SAT, 34 ACT, 4.0 unweighted, top 1%, 2 varsity sports, all state music

Congratulations to those accepted.

First of all, congratulations to both of you!

My stats are unfortunately looking kinda low now:

2100 (1400 M + R) SAT, ~3.8 GPA, top 5% or 6% of my class of 500, a few decent awards

My ECs include bodybuilding and martial arts, which I think are kind of unique.

My school does block-scheduling though, so I was able to “switch out” a semester of high school with a semester of college, which I’ll have completed before I graduate - do you think this could help me?

I can also guarantee some “stand-out” essays, lol.

What would you say my chances are?

^^ oh yea, right…you sure have loooooooooooooow stats. no chance AT ALL.

eastikop, your SAT score appears to be fine but most people accepted to the honors college are in the top 3% of their high school class

I meant low compared to these guys, lol!

But alright, I guess we’ll just have to see.

You have very impressive stats eastikop! Best of luck. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I guess it was my GPA that got me.

3.7W at a non-ranking private. With a 2190 SAT/34 ACT, very rigorous courseload, English teacher-approved essays, and 3-5 hours a day of swim practice since 6th grade in addition to several hours of community service.

I guess that shows you just how much importance they place on GPA/ranking at Calhoun and I’m assuming Clemson in general.

well at a relatively large public school (and other public schools too), they don’t really have the time to read over and take a holistic view of your applications since they get so many. Numbers such as ranking, GPA and SAT/ACT scores are a quick way to review all the applications and make a decision.

Your grades don’t seem that low - maybe it was your Honors application essays. I understand they read them very carefully and that decisions are based on the application materials (once you meet the minimum SAT/class rank to have your application reviewed).

CollegeBound, just remember that you can apply for the Calhoun Honors College if you have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 after each semester!

Congrats to everyone that was accepted. My son got the email that he’s in.

OOS; Stats: SAT – 1460 / 2110 (740M, 720CR, 650W); ACT – 31 (did not send); SAT II’s–Math Level 2 800, Chemistry 690; GPA 4.00 unweighted, 4.395 weighted; class rank 13 of 433 (3%); very good EC’s – Robotics Club, Math Team, All-State Chorus all six years eligible, rec. baseball and swimming, some community service but not exceptional there; NHS and Beta Club

Sorry - see now this is a year old thread…

Keep in mind Calhoun has a $300 per semester fee for the honor of being in honors. My D likely will say, thanks, but no thanks, based on principle. So there will be one more Calhoun spot opening up in the next month or two.
