I am just now submitting my application to the Honors College at Clemson. I missed the priority deadline by months because honestly Clemson was not high on my list until I visited recently and realized how much I love it. Now I'm scared that I have a significantly lower chance of getting in since I will be applying late. Does anyone know if much less a percentage of "regular" applicants get accepted than priority applicants? Are my chances way lower because I waited so long and many others are already "in"?

I was admitted to Clemson early action, and was offered a $15,000/year scholarship if that helps at all.

Stats are good but not excellent:
SAT 2140 (720 M, 720 CR, 700 W)
4.0, school does not weight or rank
no APs offered but rigorous classes
Captain of 3 varsity sports
Not too much volunteerwork but a good internship
Solid essays

Please give any information you have & chance me if you can!! I'm so nervous.

I can give you a comparison. DS2 was not admitted into the honors program.
33 ACT
competitive private school does not rank but according to profile he was decimal points out of the top 10 %. So, maybe top 11%
Eagle Scout
Multiple awards for math
State level champ at public speaking EC
Every AP possible
150+ volunteer hours that required additional training
Great essays

I was rejected from the honors program and here are my stats:
2100 SAT (1360 M+CR)
GPA: 3.97, school does not weight
11 AP Classes
Top 3% of class of 800+
Excellent essays, awards, service hours, etc.

I actually emailed them just because I was curious and they told me I didn’t get in because I didn’t do enough service/volunteer activities (despite doing 150+ hours per year)
ALSO: the admission is extremely competitive this year due to a larger than normal amount of applicants.

From what I heard, they received about 40% more applications this year by the priority deadline, which made it mch more competitive. I think they are probably hoping for 300 in the fall, so probably fewer admittances now through May than last year.

Really depends what the honors college class looks like at the moment. Most people apply by the priority deadline so they’ll probably accept fewer people from now on but if you have competitive stats in line with those of honors students - I’d imagine they’d still take a serious look at your application regardless.

Found this on the honors college website:
“Freshman enrollment in the Honors College is limited to approximately 250 or less than ten percent of the freshman class.”
“Admission to the Honors College is highly selective, with SAT scores historically averaging 1400 or higher and applicants typically ranking in the top three percent of their high school class.”

I’ve been accepted to the Honors College at Clemson and my stats are:
GPA: Unweighted: 3.83 Weighted: 5.17 on a 6.0 scale.
Class Rank: 4 of 333 (Top 1.2%)
3 AP classes: World History and Calculus AB/BC sophomore year (couldn’t do more because of IB Program)
6 IB Credits
SAT: 1340 (730 Math 610 Critical Reading)
Composite ACT: 30
Service: 200+ hours of being a camp counselor, working at a homeless shelter, and being a volunteer basketball coach for a recreational basketball league.
Work Experience: Tutor
Honors: Junior Marshall, National, Math, Spanish, English honor societies
Extracurricular activities: Cross Country/Indoor Track/ Spring Track 4 years each and Captain of cross country team two years. Student council representative for four years and Mu Alpha Theta treasurer.

D was denied admission to the HC. Stats seem to be in line with those accepted. She’s a little bummed. This may put Clemson out of the running…

GPAuw 3.9 GPAw 4.3. All honors and AP classes. All 5’s on ap exams. Taking ap lit and ap Calc ab senior year.
33 ACT. Two sport varsity athlete. Part time job at Sonic. Volunteer swim coach with Special Olympics.
Not in top 10% of class. I suspect that hurt her.

D was admitted to HC
OOS
UW GPA 3.8
W GP 4.6
4 AP classes as a junior with all 4s
4 AP classes as a senior
ACT 35
Varsity team captain
Part time job
Volunteer hours - over 200 hours
Small private school (less the 60 students in her class) - so they do not rank
Awards in Latin, Greek and Math

Getting into HC was the determining factor in accepting admissions offer.

Bigdaddy88: How can an unweighted GPA of 3.9 not be in the top 10% of your D’s class? I’m sorry, but that is absolutely insane!!! Your D sounds awesome and definitely works very hard to challenge herself…am very sorry to hear she was not admitted to HC!!! If I was making the decision…she would have been admitted!
