USC, UCLA, UCSB, PEPPERDINE, LOYOLA MARYMOUNT... Any opinions about these schools from people who go there? and about which would be best to go to if planning on majoring in communications and/or business and hoping to get a business career in the entertainment industry? :-)

I go to USC. What do you want to know specifically? I can't really give you an opinion- although it IS the best school in the world :) - since it would be terribly biased.

I'm not sure how the other schools are in these fields (although I do know UCLA doesn't have undergrad business except for economics). USC is a top school in the communications field, and has a respected business major as well. I don't know exactly how good the entertainment industry concentration is here, but I do know that it is a very popular major. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

usc came to mind before i read uschicka's post.. it seems to fit your description.

Doesn't Loyola Marymount also have a great program in communications/tv/film?

But the best is UCLA, you have marshall, and their communications is also really really good. Best place.

Hey uschicka, what were your stats that you got into USC?

Aren't you referring to USC or am I reading it wrong? USC has Marshall and Annenberg not UCLA.

I think USC and UCLA would best fit your needs. USC has a great undergrad business program in Marshall and a great communications program in Annenberg. Also if you're into the music side, I'd also suggest the Music Industry program. UCLA also has a great biz-econ program and from what I hear a solid communications dept as well.

If you can't get into those two, Loyola Marymount is probably your next best bet.

UCLA's BizEcon program and USC's BizAdmin program are both excellent for undergrads interested in entertainment-related business.

Pepperdine....great location, beautiful campus, but I'd stay away unless you are really religious.

Loyola Marymount does have a very good communications program...and they're not bad for business either. However, my first choice would be USC of that list. Pepperdine is excellent for communications but as Heefar noted, it's a pretty conservative and religious administration there (although students are not necessarily as conservative).

thanks for all the info, very helpful! but what about ucsb? does anyone go there?

TheAbolition- I had a 4.1 gpa and a 1290 SAT. Luckily I had really good ECs to which I showed good commitment, or else I probably would not have been admitted since my SAT is so far below average (about 1430 I believe). This was two years ago, though, and admissions keep getting more competitive.

afterhours- I'm assuming liek just made a typo since Marshall and the really good comm program is at USC.

UCSB is awesome, I don't go there, but it is my first choice. Great location, good academics, and a great social scene.

UCSB's communication program is not on the same level as the other schools. It tends to stress theory a bit too much in my opinion. Otherwise, UCSB is a great school. It just wouldn't top the list of the schools mentioned for communications.

yeah sorry typo.

USC is the strongest for the biz

its the school with the connections...
