I'm attending a California CC right now but I REALLY want to transfer to a school in the DC area. Right now I'm thinking about the University of Maryland-College Park, American University, and George Washington University. However, I don't want to rule out the possibility of applying to UCs because I need to have backups of course. Should I follow IGETC? How do I find out what courses would transfer to those schools? What do I do if classes are required for one of them but not the others? I'm getting insanely stressed out because it seems like soooo much work and I'm scared of rejection. Any success stories? Thank you! =)

check out George Mason University in Va.. about 20 minutes from DC.. Its not as hard to get into as the others you listed

How does George Mason compare in prestige/quality of education?

Mason is a good public university. Its not on the same level as UMD or GW, but it's respected on the east coast. It's the largest university in VA with about 30,000 students.

Regarding George Mason, it has very little name-recognition outside of the Virginia area, if that's something you're concerned about when moving back to California (if you do).

American is actually quite good to transfers and accepts almost 1,000 every year. They're considered one of Phi Theta Kappa's "transfer-friendly" institutions. As long as you have the record, you shouldn't consider that to be unattainable. We've had students from my college accepted there for at least two years running, and probably more than that.

Since you don't have an articulation agreement with those colleges, there's no way to be certain what will transfer until the colleges let you know. However, a good idea is to check their course catalogues to see if you have taken courses that are roughly equivalent based on descriptions, and also which meet degree requirements there. That should help.

I went to a ccc and applied to some out of state schools. Judging from my peers, it is easier to get into a UC from a ccc than it is to get into an out of state school. (As it is more difficult to get into a UC from an out of state community college). You can set out of state schools as your goal, but definately finish IGETC and do your major requirements so you can apply to UCs as well.

i hate DC, dont do it lol

DC is so boring
