I'm not from California, so I'm a non-resident. I'm currently a junior with a 3.4 as my UW GPA & my weighted GPA is 3.5(not UC scale). I'm also planning to get an UW GPA of 4.0 this semester.
I plan to get to get 25-28 on the ACT and 1600-1700 on the SAT.
I was in tennis, key club, FBLA, medical careers club, and link crew.
I am trying to become an officer for FBLA and medical careers club for senior year.
What colleges can I go to in California?
My wish is to get accepted to UCI and CSULB, but I don't know if I can.
Any thoughts?

It’s possible if you get good grades this semester and study for the SAT. If you are thinking pre-med, check out UC Riverside. But also be aware that there is little financial aid for OOS students, and the price is twice as much as in state.

Best to come back when the “plannings” turn into realities–if they do. Then you can get better guidance

Oh okay, that’s great! I think I can raise my GPA up to a 3.6-3.7 by the end of this semester.
What are my chances then?

Google the common data set for each school. You will see all the statistics, such as number of applicants, GPA, SAT scores, etc. You will be able to see how your stats compare.

This isn’t the chances forum. Too bad you didn’t ‘plan’ to get that 4.0 last semester too.

In addition, the UC’s will cost your parents $50,000/year from out of state: talk to them to see if they have that money laying around for your education. Remember you can only take on $5,500 in loans freshman year.

Cost will not be a big deal.

Okay if your parents can afford the OOS fees (talk with them about it though - some parents CAN afford the costs but aren’t willing to spend that amount of money. Talk with them now, because each Spring CC has posts from students who discover in March or April that their favorite colleges won’t be affordable).

3.4 is borderline; you should get well above 25, preferably 28-30 ACT, or 1700 as a bare minimum but considering your GPA I’d aim for a 1900-2000 to offset that.

Beside UCI, include UCSC, USR or UCM, and a couple other CSU’s beside Long Beach. You could also apply and get into Whittier, Redlands, USan Francisco, USan Diego, St Mary’s of CA, and LMU. Chapman or Santa Clara, would be a reaches but possible if you’re full pay.

‘plan’ to get a higher score on the sat. You can raise your score if you really study for it, and it is easier than raisig an entire gpa. Since you are from out of state your scores will need to be a little higher than instate, but you have a shot. Usually from what I’ve seen on decision threads, unless you are an URM or have another hook, you will need a higher test score to balance the ok but not fantastic gpa at the mid range UCs. But as others have said, there are colleges here beyond UCs. Take a look at Chico, as well.

I heard UCR and UCM can be easier reaches for me, is that true? Details on Chico?

yes, UCR and UCM would probably be matches, not reaches, actually.

Chico is a really good N Cal school with about 15k undergrads. The town of Chico has literally grown up around in for the past 100 or so years. It is one of the most residential CSUs. Take alook on the map - the town is a bit isolated and well over 100 miles from the ocean. With your stats you should have no trouble with admission, even as an OOS applicant. I think they are part of the WUE so, if you live in a western state the tuition won’t be as bad/

Pay attention the the A-G requirements posted on CSUMENTOR - they trip up a lot of OOS applicants.
