California community college to Cal state-help me

hi guys
currently i am in my sophomore year at a California Community College (CCC) and am hoping to either transfer to a Cal state Long Beach or Pomona/SLO (San Luis Obispo) as a Aerospace Engineer major

i really havnt been doing as well as i know i could due to alot of family issues
currently i have below a 3.0 GPA but am working my butt off this semester to try and better my GPA....taking calc 2, phil 5, physics 66, chem 101

after this session i will be done with the IGETC requirements and almost done with my major pre req's to transfer with my major (Aerospace Engineering)

i also am trying to work with DWP as a summer job so i could put that on my application (cousin is a electrical engineer working at DWP)

i have a few questions

other then Cal state Long Beach, Pomona, SLO which other colleges would be good for me to transfer to, know my GPA isn't that great

when do i apply? is there a fall semester that i could apply to for these colleges? or do i have to wait my 3rd year of college to transfer?

how hard would it really be for me to transfer below a 3.0 GPA with my major?

any other useful information is very well appreciated

Look into CSUN(ME w/ AE option) as a backup. Keep your grades up you should be fine with a 2.8-3.2 for Cal Poly Pomona which has a great program. One of my friends got into CPP last year for ME with a 3.0. Once you get in you get somewhat of a clean slate GPA wise, so try not to let your grades slip again.

yea i heard CSUN is pretty good as well but id really like to go somewhere other then CSUN cuz i live right there and id like to move out lol

but any1 else share their opinion w/ me?

bump////////

bumppppppppp

can anyone else help me out?

need to know more

Hi there. Honestly (and I’ve just learned this the hard way myself), you’ll have the best chance at admission at the CSU closest to you, which is in agreement with your CCC. So apply to CSUN, even if you don’t want to go there, to keep your options open.

CSULB is surprisingly difficult to get into because they give major, major priority to local students. I figured I would be local myself, because the school is about a 20 minute drive from my CC, Fullerton College, but I found out earlier tonight that you’re not really considered local unless you completed 30 or more units at Long Beach City College and/or Orange Coast, Golden West or Coast Community College. I have a 3.7 GPA, I’m an honors student, and I didn’t get into CSULB, despite being relatively close. It was a major bummer. I’m not saying don’t apply to CSULB if you don’t go to any of those schools, but do have a backup plan.

Cal Poly SLO is also really, really hard to get into. They have about a 13% transfer admission rate. Again, totally go for it, but don’t count on it.

I would look at Cal State Fullerton. I’m not sure if they offer your major, but it’s a good school with a little less interest and a little more room. Also, it’s far, but CSU Sacramento would be relatively easy to get into with below a 3.0. Again, I’m not sure if you’d be able to do aerospace engineering there.

You definitely have a chance at any of the CSUs. I would apply to as many as you can, and keep your grades as high as you can for the next few semesters.

Good luck. :-)

P.S. Try posting this in the UC Transfers forum. You’ll find more California transfer students there.
