California Community College to SLO

Hello everyone, I’m currently attending a community college right now and I’m considering applying as a transfer this upcoming Fall to CAL POLY SLO. Here is my current academic status:

Major: Computer Science
GPA : 3.50

I’m currently taking some Summer courses, which will boost my GPA a bit more if I do well. The chance of me doing well in them is on the good side.

It will be my third year at the community college. By the end of the 2013-2014 school year, I should be done with my IGETC and/or CSU requirements for GE’s. As far as major classes, I should be done with most, if not all, of them. There are some classes left, but those aren’t major classes, and one of them isn’t offered.

Please give me your guys’ input as far as my chance of getting in and the Computer Science program at SLO as well. I heard it’s pretty good and feel like it would be a good place for me to be at if I’m able to get in.

Thank you very much for every input and opinions.

according to the cal poly website, the average transfer gpa is 3.35, so based on that alone, you have a good chance!

I checked earlier and it says 3.49 or so, that’s why I wanted others’ opinion. Thanks for the reply, tigerash. Have a great evening!

By the way, the 3.49 is specifically for Computer Science/Engineering.

I think you have a pretty fair chance to get in. I actually just transferred to Cal Poly SLO for aerospace engineering and got in with a 3.60, so I’m sure that if you do raise your GPA a bit with your Summer classes, then you’ll be primed to be accepted. Good luck!

The process is so unpredictable it isn’t really worth it to predict. I know people who got in with 3.1 - 3.5 to matE and IE. High GPA’s, including myself, 3.8 - 4.0, all got either waitlisted or rejected, although we all applied to CE and ME. Computer Science seems to admit more transfers than other engineering majors. All you do is apply and hope for the best, although I think you have a good chance.

I think you have a good chance. I got in with around a 3.5 GPA as a transfer student. As long as you’re within the average range of GPAs and have all of your prereqs met, you have a decent shot. However, as people have indicated, the process is highly unpredictable, so my guess is as good as anyone else’s.
