California community college UC

Let me start of with the fact that I live in Illinois. This being known, would it be smart for me to attend a California community college ( the cost is equal to state schools in Illinois) in order for tuition for a University of California school to be cheaper? I would become a California resident while attending school. The community college I was looking at is Santa Barbra Community college and transferring to UC Berkley Davis or UCSB (I figure I have time to deiced which is best for me)

Thanks for all your help!

Carpetbagging California residency is difficult:

[Steps to Enrollment: Residency - Santa Barbara City College](http://www.sbcc.edu/apply/residency.php)
[Establishing California Residence for Tuition Purposes, Office of the Registrar](404 - Page Not Found)

You’re right it does look like a difficult process but I was planning on staying out in California after college anyway so I might as well get it out of the way as soon as possible. Also you being a UC-B alumni how does UCSB’s biology program stack up to Berkeley’s? I’m planning on perusing a medical degree after my undergrad so I was wondering if I should stick to UCSB or try Berkeley for med school.

Any help is appreciated guys/girls! I’d rather attend a UC school than any of the other schools here in Illinois and the surrounding states!
