Hi, I have a question. I am a high school senior. Would I be able to get a GED so I don’t have to attend the second half of senior year (which frees up my schedule for my other commitments), and then attend college (provided I get accepted) in the fall as usual? Do colleges have rules against doing so? I understand that high school and fun and all, but I’m just asking for answers to a genuine question that I have.
You need to ask each of the colleges on your list about this.
The GED is not the easiest thing on the world to pass. I teach GED prep, and the students who do finish all of the exams in short order generally spend as much time studying for them as they would spend in school if they were still in HS. Can you just arrange to graduate at the end of the first semester? Or if you only need a couple of classes second semester, could you arrange to take themonline and study part time?
i think you will find that only CCs will be open to you if you take that route. I’d see if your school/district has on-line or home study options so you can finish your required HS classes and secure a diploma.
Even if the college accepts a GED on lieu of a regular diploma, you would also need to complete any course requirements that the college wants to see. For example, if you skip a semester and end up with only 3.5 years of English courses, that may not be enough for colleges that want to see 4 years.
