I took out the hispanic scholars offers. The scholarships I mentioned were based on gpa and sat score combinations. My ds full ride is primarily due to sat score and essay scholarship competition. The point of my post was to have OP think beyond cal state schools. Most of my son’s scholarships were not for hispanic scholarship.

Tacoma joe look also at chapman university. Your son would be eligible for at least 25k a year for his grades.

I will look into your suggestions. It’s becoming stressful to think about. I guess I can expect unknown and tough decisions in the next 6 months.

I originally wanted him to stick to applying to about 5 schools. If he gets offered a scholarship he can wait to make a decision until he hears from all schools, correct?

Part of the issue with the WUE program with regard to UOregon is that it’s supposed to be reciprocal between states. If comparable public u’s in CA won’t take Oregon kids at WUE rates, it’s only makes sense that UO couldn’t do it for CA students.

Chapman does have generous merit aid, but it’s still very expensive and even with merit might not end up being a lot cheaper than a UC. It also doesn’t have an engineering college although it does offer CS and IS majors.

I am cleaning my son’s room and found a sheet from Iowa State University entitled “Scholarships for California Residents.” The amount given along with what you could afford would cover everything. Just passing this info along.

Don’t worry it is stressful but with planning and research it does get easier. Good luck.

Thanks. Will check into that also. This thread has been an eye opener to us. He is excited about his possibilities. So much good advice on this site.

*If he gets offered a scholarship he can wait to make a decision until he hears from all schools, correct? *

Absolutely.

And, if some school gives some early deadline, just contact them and ask for an extension.

I don’t know of any specific schools that have such early deadlines, but I remember a parent posting last year that some midwest school had some early deadline for their scholarship acceptance and she was advised to ask for an extension.

All the schools we dealt with let you accept scholarships in the spring.

And, if you do accept one, there still isn’t any obligation to attend anyway.
