California lawmakers looking to put affirmitative action before the voters (public colleges)

My paper, The Press Enterprise, had an article today about politicians wanting to “look” at ways to “help” certain students get into Cal States and UC’s, and the large Asian population at UC Irvine was mentioned. I am not Asian, but this seems like a horrible way to go. So, we will legislate mediocrity just so everyone feels good about themselves? Or, students can work harder to meet the bar. What they are proposing seems very “un-American,” you are supposed to work hard if you want to get ahead. I plan on writing my representative to voice my concerns with this plan.
