Hi I know there’s a semi-similar thread going around at the moment but I was wondering about people’s knowledge of schools in California offering undergraduate degrees to eventually become an elementary school teacher. As well as the strength and opportunities from those programs. No regard for stats, price, or location in California. Thanks!
CalStateLA is extremely well regarded for education.
Private U wise, I know that Loyola Marymount and U of the Pacific both offer programs that will get you through a BA and a teaching credential in four years. Mills has a five year program.
Humboldt State (California State University) has a rare 4 year Liberal Studies/Elementary Education major. Usually it takes 5 years
All good suggestions here.
My only advice to you is to note that the CSU system (rather than the UC system) are set up with the most educational majors/programs to help you get credentialed to teach at primary and/or high schools in California.
nearly any of the CSUs will probably do the trick. It takes a special kind of person but, If you KNOW you want to be a teacher, several have accelerated programs that will get you in the classroom with your own class in just 4 years. Sac, and Sonoma are the ones i am most familiar with. Great programs, great alignment with local school districts and nearly everyone has a permanent job when they graduate.
You’re in-state? In that case the CSU programs are very good and probably your best financial deal.
If you’re coming from OOS then CA publics aren’t a bargain and a private U that offers merit could be the better choice.
