All I ever hear of are the UC’s and Stanford in California. What are some other good schools other than those and CalPolySLO in California? Id prefer you list schools better than UC Riverside. Ive heard of SDSU hows that? What about some others?

as far as public schools go, UC's are obviously the best...cal poly SLO is the best out of the CSU's. SDSU isn't so great..it's a mediocre school known mostly for its partying..

there are a lot of great private schools in california: USC, the Claremont Colleges (harvey mudd, claremont mckenna, scripps, pomona, pitzer), Santa Clara, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, Univ of San diego, Univ of the Pacific(for pharmacy), Univ of San Francisco, Dominican, St. Mary's...of course a lot of those are catholic though

Occidental

Another one is Chapman

What is the best Public school from that list, and the Best Private?

Best public: UC Berkeley but it's wicked hard to get into as an out of state applicant. UCLA and UCSD would be close behind but are also difficult to get into.

Best privates: Stanford, Pomona, Cal Tech, Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd.

The cal state schools like SDSU are focused on career prep and may or may not be worth coming all the way to California for, depending on your major and career goals. Many of them are primarily commuter schools. The one exception would be Cal Poly San Luis Obispo which is awesome for engineering. SDSU is probably next in line of the cal state schools and is particularly strong for business.

Another private school not mentioned above is the University of Redlands. But, in general, California is pretty dominated by the public school systems.

Yeah Im looking into Private schools. What would you say are the top public schools not including UC's or SLO in California? Or how about in some states surrounding California, such as Arizona, Nevada ect..Also hows occidental..is that one religious?

Maxpowers:
the UC's or SLO are the only well respected public schools in California. The only other public schools are CSU's which are usually regarded to be mediocre.

In the Cal State system the schools that are looked at as the best (besides Cal Poly and SDSU) are Long Beach & Chico. Fresno, Humboldt, and Sacramento aren't bad either. For nearby out-of-state, try University of Nevada- Reno. Tuition is low and it's pretty popular in Northern California. Arizona State is another popular one.

Three of the best schools in the west:

Liberal Arts-
Pomona College
Claremont Mckenna College
Harvey Mudd

Pomona is considered the "Harvard of the West" and is strong in almost all of its academics. Claremont McKenna's english program is second to none while Harvey Mudd's engineering is superb. The Claremont colleges are very hard to get into as you will need near "ivy-esque" type of scores to get in. The thing which I don't like about the schools though is the incredibly small class size which you may or may not admire. I hear the student:faculty ratio at the schools is very small and you will get some of the best education ever at these schools.

Lol, if there ever were such a thing as the "Harvard of the West" it would go to Stanford. Pomona may be high-quality but it's not well-known nationally because it's a LAC.

dont forget university of southern california. its prestigious and has a great alum base.

santa clara university is a great private school if you're not trying for stanford, pomona or the likes. it's a jesuit school but the only religious requirements are religious studies classes.

Pomona is REALLY referred to as the "Harvard of the West". Yea, I would agree that Stanford is so much better though.

truMy, you may want to say it is so much better for you. For many Pomona is better, for others Stanford. both offer a wonderful education.

occidental isn't religiously affiliated

Hows the University of Arizona? Also Univeristy of San Diego? Is San Diego religiously affilliated?

univ of san diego - catholic school

Thanks for your reply's awakenedream your a big help

what are your stats? are you looking for private schools?
