I am applying to only the state schools in California, I know i have the grades to get into the ones im going to apply to, but i have a question. If i were to choose between CSU Northridge and CSU Fullerton, which one of these colleges should i attend? If it helps or whatever....My score for the elgibiltiy index is 3540

What would be your major?

Obviously CSU Fullerton unless you’re doing Deaf Studies.

I am majoring in Mathematics…

You may want to check the catalogs and schedules to see if the upper division math offerings at each school are suitable for your interests.

3540 might not get you into Fullerton - particularly if you are OOS. Apply to both just to be safe.

CalDud, I’m not sure why you said that. Northridge is a great school. I live in the vicinity and can attest that people get great educations and very good jobs after graduation.

Well, thats just the score, but im assuming they also see the AP/H courses that i took and take that into consideration…So then either Fullerton or Northridge would be a good choice? I know they are very close to each other because they are both suburbs in LA, so then is there a difference between them?

Have you considered CSU Channel Islands? It has a very good math program. The daughter of a friend went on from there into a PhD program. She was very happy with the education. It’s a great school in a beautiful setting. Smaller, with more faculty/student interaction.

I don’t know much about Fullerton. Northridge is also a good choice.

The AP/H courses are calculated into your eligibility index score. They don’t look at them again.

I think CSN and CSF are very similar and you will get a good education at either. Northridge is closer to Los Angeles, while Fullerton is in Orange County. Both are nice campuses and both have a mix of good and bad areas around them. CSUCI is a very new campus outside of the town of Camarillo, about 1 hour north of Los Angeles ( between LA and Santa Barbara. It is much smaller than the other 2, and has built up a very good reputation with good instructors. The dorms are new and it is in a beautiful setting- a little valley about 3 miles out of town. There are buses that go into town on a regular basis, where you can connect to county-wide buses or Amtrak. Public transportation in Ventura County in general in not good so to me it would be hard to get around without a car. Entertainment opportunities near CSN and CSF would be better for college students probably. CSUCI is a very quiet little campus and the nearby town in pretty sleepy (we live there and my kids could not wait to get out!). If you are not set on So. Calif., you might look at Sonoma State. It is also a smaller campus near Santa Rosa. My daughter attended there and absolutely loved it.

As takeitallin says, CSUCI would require a car. It’s very near the ocean. Agree that the surrounding area is sleepy but Ventura and Santa Barbara to the north and only 1 hour to LA in the south. Depends on how urban OP wants to be.

Fullerton and Northridge are inland and in the city.

I will not have a car with me at college, mainly because i wont be able to afford gas. If college board is correct CSUCI is a rural area, then no i will not enjoy it. Im from a medium sized suburban town in Nor Cal, near the city Stockton. I want to get away from home within a reasonable distance. Im applying to Sacramento and Cal Poly as well, I just wanted to know the difference between Fullerton and Northridge and you have answered my questions…thanks…
