hey, i'm looking for another CSU to apply to. i already applied to san jose state university. i was going to apply to san diego state but apparently only those with more than 60 college transferable units can.
hmm well CSUs are just my backup schools so just a decent CSU in general is ok. i plan to major in something in the field of fine arts or social science, but if i do go to a CSU i will probably transfer out of it to an UC. yes...any help would be appreciated! :) THANKS

Could you please explain --- your post is a bit confusing. Are you looking to enter as a transfer student? If so, how many units do you have? And why would you want to transfer again? With that said, you might check out Chico state, Humboldt State, and Sonoma State.

sorry about that! no i'm entering college as a freshman. =] it's just that if i don't get accepted into an UC i will attend a CSU and then later transfer to an UC.

thanks!

if your applying as a freshman why did you say "I was going to apply to san diego state but apparently only those with more than 60 college transferable units can"? you don't need to have college transferable units to enter as a freshman.

Just apply to san diego state, i don't see why you can't apply. The strongest schools with fine arts from the cal states are cal state long beach and cal state chico, maybe cal poly slo.

what are transferable units? im actually doing the sdsu app right now and i don't know what to put! =

If you wish to transfer later to a UC, you are better off to attend a community college rather than a Cal State. Transferring into a UC will be much easier. The UCs have two main feeders: high schools and community colleges. The Cal States have their own four-year programs and are not set up to be UC feeders.

transferable units are community college courses that transfer into uc or cal states.

So since I'm applying as a freshman and I haven't taken any community college classes, I would put "No units completed later than the summer following high school graduation" or "fewer than 30 semster units/45 quarter units"? Or do I skip it completely? Thanks you guys! =p

simply put "No units completed later than the summer following high school graduation"

Thanks PolarMan!

to liek0806: hm that's what i thought too..but when i submitted my sdsu app that's what it told me =/ "SDSU is not accepting applications for Fall 2005 from Lower Division applicants (those with less than 60 transferable units)." thank you for your suggestions!
to coureur: i agree with you and that's what i told my parents, but they would still prefer me to transfer from a CSU than a community college...for some odd reason. anyways, thanks for your help!
to macramequeen: tell me if you are able to send in your sdsu app =) good luck!

Yup I just sent it tonight! Aweeeee... it feels good!

I would personally go to a CSU and then transfer to a UC. Even though jr. college--> UC is supposedly safer, the whole enviornment of a comm. college is not what I find to supportive, in the least. And at that, I don't believe it even preps you sufficiently for the UCs. Also, if you don't have that drive and tend to be a little wishy-washy, like me lol, then junior college probably won't be that beneficial. Though I think it's awesome to see dogged individuals tranfer from a JC to a UC, more power to them. But yeah that's just my humble opinion.

In my opinion I find most of the Cal States to have the community college feel just because most of them are commuter schools, and they don't even rank in US News. I would rather attend community college. It's cheaper, I'll have a way much more better chance of transferring. I think your going to end up at your Cal State all 4 years, because you'll end up being frustrated that your classes don't transfer to UC's.

PS are you sure you didn't check off somewhere applying as a transfer on the sdsu application. Because if your applying as a freshman nothing should have popped out.

ah yes thanks. i put my entry status wrong. the lady at my career center told me wrong but it's not her fault; the paper app is slightly different from the online app. hmm i'm confused though...i'm a 1st time freshmen who has taken a college course during high school...the online app doesn't let you list previous colleges attended and college courses since i have "no units completed later than the summer following high school graduation." they let you in the paper app though. also, even though i changed my entry status, when i printed out a copy of my app it still had the college info and college courses on it (which i had put when i inaccurately put "fewer than 30 semster units/45 quarter units" before) eh so should i tell them to change that or should i just leave it? thanks for anyone who can help!!
