San Luis Obispo, Sonoma, Humboldt, and Monterey Bay are among the CSUs where most frosh live on campus (a proxy for residential versus commuter students). However, this does not say anything about the quality of the dorms or other aspects of the experience at those campuses versus other CSUs.

See the Campus Life tab for the school’s entry at http://www.collegedata.com to see the percentage of frosh living in the dorms.

CSUEB had just completed a new dorm, you might want to look into it.

Just wanted to say that Sac State’s dorms are pretty big.

All of Channel Islands dorms are very new and very nice. It is still a newer campus but is in a gorgeous setting.

Best dorms is pretty subjective. In N Cal, Sonoma, Chico and Humboldt are by far the most residential CSUs. Others like Sac have dorms but, most students live elsewhere and drive to campus each day. Take a tour, talk to some students and see what you think.

One observation about shiny new dorms. They look great but are configured differently than the classic residence hall and the social interaction is different. The suite set up in many new dorms is more apartment style, more semi-private space but, the default door (to the hall) position is closed - rather than open in the old cinder-block style structures.

Sonoma has the best housing in the CSU System, hands down.
