Hey guys I desperately need to know when CSU’s stop processing the FAFSA for incoming freshman because I got my social security number wrong on the csu application and my parents lost my social security card which I need to change my social security number (but all the offices are closed in person and I am a minor so I can’t request replacement online) Does ANYONE know when csu’s stop processing the FAFSA for financial aid, I need to know this so that I can know when I need to get my replacement social security card by. I really hope that this doesn’t prevent me from going to college (I already decided on CSUN and now all I need is this for financial aid but I don’t know how I will get a new social security card and when I need to do it!!!)
Is your social security number on your parents’ tax returns? On a bank account?
@gumbymom thoughts on how to proceed with CSUN?
Some state and institutional financial aid requires the student apply before the March 2 California priority filing deadline. The application is available until June 30, but eligibility for some programs may be limited after March 2, due to limited funding.
I would contact CSUN financial aid office and explain your situation. If your SS# is wrong, then they probably were unable to process your application so contact the school and find out what you need to do. Did you use the DRT tool when filing the FASFA?
@Gumbymom okay thank you, yeah I finished the FAFSA well before March 2nd and they told me that they can’t process my financial aid until my SSN is fixed so now I am really worried I will be too late to receive any because I don’t know how I can get a replacement to verify my fixed number with CSUN
@Mwfan1921 I really don’t know, will that be available to use instead of a card?
Yes, if your parents’ tax return, or if your bank account have your SS#, you can use it. Unless of course it’s the same # as the one you said is incorrect. You don’t necessarily need the physical card.
Did CSUN tell you your SS# was incorrect?
Okay I will see if I can access either of those and use those instead. Thank you guys for the help!
But If I can’t do either of you know if the Social Security Administration will accept documents via email or if they still check their mail for documents? Because if I get a replacement card I need to send certain documents of proof and a application for a new card but I don’t know if they accept document via email and mail now that COVID 19 has offices closed.
Never mind I will be able to use my bank account documents or my parents’ tax documents thanks! Now I just hope they accept them.
Great! Good luck, I hope it works out!
Thank you! You guys are the ones to thank!
*If it does work
@Mwfan1921 @Gumbymom Hey guys I just wanted to thank you officially now, because of your help my correct SSN was successfully updated to the CSUN system, I really can’t thank you both enough because without your help I would have to be calling the SSA every day and hoping they would send me a SSC (which wansn’t likley) THANK YOU!
Glad it all worked out…good luck at CSUN!
Glad I could help.
