Hello everyone!

I am currently on a college hunt and would like to ask any student (or alumni) at Fullerton /Long beach if the Computer Science Department teaches students rather well. how are the teachers?

How is the study environment and student life at campus?

And how long would it take to commute from Fullerton and Long beach to LA (I have family there that I would rather stay with than get a dorm). you know, traffic and other variables included.

Anything notable with these schools that you would like to boast about?

I am getting a lot of good reviews from different websites about these schools but I'd rather an hear such good praises from an actual student.

Thanks everyone. Have a lovely day!

Not a student but a Mom. My good friend (got his CS Masters at CSUF) recommended the following schools to my son when he was applying last year as a CS Major:
CSLUB
CSUF
CPP
SDSU
SJSU
Cal Poly SLO

Thank you ma’am. I’ll add those to my list and check them out.

@Feelipino: I do not know what kind of Stats you have, but you may want to consider UC Riverside and UC Irvine in Southern California. UC Davis and Santa Cruz in Northern California for CS. Cal Poly SLO can be as competitive as the UC’s and very difficult to get in. Cal Poly Pomona would be an excellent choice for CS…
Good Luck

I believe classes are impacted and the commute can be at least 30 min in no traffic, but in reality, much more. Also what part of L. A.?

Long Beach is impacted because the school has worked a lot to get access to all of the local tech companies in Orange County, i.e. the Redondo Beach area for its students internships. These are giants like Northrop, General Atomics, and, get this, BOEING has leased several buildings onsite with its pick of Engineering and CS interns from campus!

It has an impressive Computer engineering department such that competition is extremely tough to get in. If you are a top in-state student, like a National Merit Candidate, you get a full ride and a salary as a tutor. This is what my son was offered. Because it is a Cal State, it is relatively inexpensive for state residents, and as such, receives over 70k applications per year. It is a commuter campus but it is still tough to get in!
