California to McGill?

Hey guys its me again. Hope your all having a great summer. I know I'm about to sound really crazy to some of you but I've actually taken an interest in McGill University in Montreal, Canada. I have a lot of cousins who've studied there so thats how I became interested. Anyways I was wondering if it would be a stupid decision to move all the way there for school especially since I'm from Cali, home to many great universities. Also, does anybody have any opinions on McGill? I know they have a strong science/med program but anything else? is it worth it? Also, around what gpa average would you need to have a good shot? Thanks guys, really appreciate all your time. Happy 4th of July to all! ( kind of ironic since I'm asking about a CANADIAN university) ;)

McGill is a superb university in a fascinating city. It would be a terrific choice, especially for a Californian since it is so very different in atmosphere than anything in CA. But whether it’s “worth it” is very subjective and depends on where else you got in, and how finances stack up in the equation.

My DD is also from CA and McGill is her number one choice. With family members already attending/attended McGill, it sounds like you have already received some great first-hand info on what it’s like to go there and live in Montreal! Since the application process for Canadian universities is pretty straightforward and requires no essay, as long as the application fee is not an issue for you, I would suggest you apply to McGill along with any other uni’s you’re considering, and see what happens. Then, as katliamom suggests, once you have received all of your acceptances, you can then make comparisons and your final decision.
