Californian Chances?

<p>I want to major in mechanical engineering.</p>

<p>GPA (Sophomore/ Junior): 4.17 (UC)</p>

<p>SAT: 1850 (690 M, 560 V, and 600 W) , 1830 (670 M, 580 V, 570 W)</p>

<p>SAT Subject: Math Level 2: 630, 680; US History: 730, World History: 610, Physics:580</p>

<p>ACT: 28 (No writing), 28 (With Writing)- i did well in math and science (30?) for both tests, but English not so much</p>

<p>Class Rank: 39 of 550</p>

<p>Extra curricular: Key Club (3 years), Academic League (3 years), Science Olympiad (3 years), California Scholarship Federation (2 years), National Honors Society (1 year), JV Football (1 year), Zoo Corps (community service with the San Diego Zoo, 2 years), Youth ministry (3 years)</p>

<p>Work: Working for a paying job teaching kids (2 yrs-8 yrs) soccer;
Referring and Concessions for same soccer park</p>

<p>Awards: Most Improved Player in Academic League, 1st place regional science Olympiad, 5th place regional science Olympiad, 5th place state science Olympiad</p>

<p>You'll probably get into UCSB, UCD, and UCSD. </p>

<p>UCB and UCLA are reaches, but tangible. Don't have your heart set on those two, but I'd say (considering you're a California resident) that if you wrote good enough essays, you stand a decent chance. </p>

<p>However, engineering kind of skews things. So I really wouldn't know.</p>

<p>Since your SAT is a bit low and you're applying to a competitive major, I'd say:</p>

<p>Berkeley: big reach
UCLA: reach
UCSD: slight reach
UCSB/UCD/Cal Poly: match</p>

<p>You have a good chance at UCSB, UCD, and UCSD. Don't count on LA/B though... it's possible but not probable.</p>
