Californians at a Disadvantage?

I just read on another thread that my chances of admission will be hindered because I'm from California. Is this really true? I think my scores and grades are up to par, and I'm expanding my e.c.s. Does it help or hurt that I'm Asian-American? I know one girl from San Diego who was a percussionist in my orchestra who went to Harvard. I'd be really angry if I was turned down because I'm from the Pacific coast

It probably doesn't matter much, but it is considered. It's a slight disadvantage because California is third most represented state at Harvard.

California is the third most represented state b/c Harvard ADMITS Californians at a higher rate than people from other states...so it evens out, get it?

The combination of being asian and from California will make the bar high for you. They get tons of application from kids who are both, and you will compete against them for the limited number of spots for both asians and Californians.

don't give up hope though. the bar isn't high enough so its unreachable!

<-- asian-american male, from SF Bay Area

if california is the 3rd, what are the first and second?

First is probably Massachusetts. My guess for second would be New York.
