Californians Looking OOS

It looks like we will be making a trip much sooner than expected to visit some of these schools. We were planning a September trip, but DD doesn’t want to miss a week of school (gotta respect that). So we’re going the week of June 16 to visit Bama, Tulane, Temple, Stevens Institute of Technology and (just for funsies) Yale. I’ll contact the honors departments at Bama & Temple. Any tips / advice for visiting any of these places would be welcome! It will be quite a whirlwind of a trip, but looking forward to dinner at Daisy Duke’s in NOLA, a hoagie from Salumeria in Philly and a showing of Avenue Q in NYC!

For Bama, you’ll likely fly into Birmingham. The drive to Bama in Tuscaloosa is an easy drive west on I-20 for about 50 minutes.

The SUNYs, and the University of Minnesota, are also pretty good for OOS students.

The University of Minnesota is in a fun urban area. Minneapolis/St Paul have a lot to offer, and students at the U of MN have easy access to both cities. U of MN has a great chemistry department.

The U of Minnesota does look awesome & quite a bargain - I checked it out yesterday. Unfortunately, I know it’s not a fit for my D since she will not go somewhere that cold. She’s willing to give Yale a pass on weather because, well, it’s Yale, and Stevens is OK because it’s right outside NYC, but I think that’s as forgiving as she is willing to be on the weather issue. All of our other schools (except Temple - not sure where she stands on that one yet) are in California or the South. U Minnesota sounds like a really wonderful choice for the non-weather-phobic though!
