I was asleep this morning and on my machine there was a message from John Maeda saying the admission officers compiled a list of top talent and I was on it. He told me to visit our.risd.edu and more adcom officers would call me later.

What does this mean? Is it just marketing or am I actually special? I was thinking about applying to RISD last year, but I thought that my work wasn't good enough, so I didn't apply. The deadline is 2/15, so I still have time. I originally wanted to apply b/c of the Brown-RISD program (I have already applied to Brown, but didn't check the box for I am applying to Brown-RISD...) Plus I haven't started the 3 required drawings.

I talked to my art teacher, yeah its true and they told me that there is a chance of acceptance with scholarship because of that call. There were 4 students including me who received this school. Overall, only potential and strong candidates were given this chance. They didn't know that we are in the same art program, all they know was the strength of our portfolio. It's not based on academics.

Resource: My art teacher who called the admissions today.

It's both, but it would be interesting to know how many students he contacted; 5, 10, 100, 500? RISD wants to attract the very best students because talented students are a joy to teach and help them maintain their reputation as one of the best art colleges. Apparently they have targeted you as someone they want very much to attend the school. Hopefully a nice scholarship offer will come your way. Good luck.

(NOT SURE) Maybe 10.. 4+1(pyn) = 5.. 10-5 = 5 more people. If its a 100, it would be painstaking to call hundred of apllicants. 10 seems like a good number. Anyone who got this call is very privileged. In my case, RISD is definitely the art school I wanted to be admitted.

Knowing a little bit about John Maeda, it wouldn't surprise me if he called up to 50 students...but who knows.

////maybe but he was a nice person indeed. Hey rainingAgain are you in RISD or an art student somehow?////

I taught design-related courses at both a major art college and within a state college system. I have seen Maeda speak, followed his career, etc.

I simply figured 10 a day for 5 days = 50 students as a reasonable ceiling.

WOW so you are an art teacher.. I'm very amazed by your career. Reminds me of my Scary cooper-yale grad painting teacher.

Also, its nice how we relate MATH over this conversation ^^.
so if your intuition about the 10 a day policy.. I'll be 41 or within 40 to 39 0-0.

Anyone of your student had encountered this also?

TO LIWEI: just check your messages ^^ i wrote something <3
