ru from ny or around western ny?

i'm ilr 2007 :)

i hope you're all ready. labor history will be a solid 400-600 pages of reading a week!!

I - L - R: I Love Reading!!!

wow how is the work load? how ddo tou manage it? what r the classes u take?

it's quite intense. ilr isn't a watered down version of cornell by any means. I've gotten A's in four college english classes (two 100 leveles and two 200 levels, with my first 300 level class in the spring) but i still have yet to crack above a B+ on any one of my ilr papers.

you just have to work though it all. It's not usually tough to get a C, or even a B, but A's can be rather illusive. I'm sure in high school all of you studied to beat everybody on the tests ... here it's study all day and night to get at least a B and hopefully an A on your final exam. This is not high school. Dont forget that everybody next to you was just as good if not better than you in high school. Some of the intro level classes like organizational behavior or Human Resources management you can succeed by memorizing the powerpoint slides from the lectures. There's about 12 slides per lecture, 10 lectures per prelim (test). Typed out onto paper (with all of the fancy bullets and so forth) it's about 35-40 pages worth. I did this for all of my HR tests - I should have at least an A- in the class, hopefully an A.

If you want to do well, be prepared to work for it. Budget your finances to afford alot of coffee. There'll be times when you're relatively free to do what you want (for instance, i'm a member of the student government and i race for Cornell Cycling), and other times that you'll give up your first born child if only there were 36 hours in a day.

In the end, it's a beautiful environment that is uniquely ilr. I wouldn't trade it for the world. After all, ilr is the only place where you "learn about the plight of the working man, and then how to keep your foot on his head."

Good luck to you all.

what are the best classes to pick first semester to not to flunk out or be really stressed and how do athletes handle the workload?

athletes have it pretty tough since they're busy for 2-3 hours a day on top of the normal work load. Odds are no matter what classes you pick you'll be stressed. I only took 4 classes this semester and it was still tough. Most of your first semester classes will be pretty much the core classes needed to graduate. I dont know what they are currently since cornell and ilr change them on what seems to be a yearly basis. You have access to the current information in the course description book and the ilr website.
