This is not a thread intended to start any arguments. BUT. I want honest opinions. Do you think it's harder to get between a 3.7-4.0 GPA taking AP or IB classes? And why.

How many classes? 6 IB classes would certainly be more difficult to attain perfect grades in then a single AP class, but 7 AP classes > 6 IB. Course rigor is similar between the two programs on a per class basis, with SL classes being somewhat easier then the average AP and HL classes somewhat harder.

I don’t think its possible to effectively compare the difficulty levels of AP classes versus IB classes. They are just very different from what I’ve seen. For example, I’m taking IB Psychology HL, and the AP Psychology syllabus is simply much more limited. In fact, I would say that AP Psych is even more limited than IB Psychology SL. However, the AP course is only meant to be taken for a year (while the IB courses are meant to be taken for two years) and so by taking the AP course you open up your schedule for a different course the next year.

Your grade is determined by the teacher, so it would depend mostly on how the teacher teaches the class and grades work.

AP. Definitely AP. Take it from someone who has taken both types of classes.
The AP is a LOT LESS DIFFICULT than the IB.

Plus, the teacher matters as well :)

Edit: I say this completely from a grades point of view, mainly because the AP syllabus is very restricted and limited when compared to IB HL subjects.

Would you consider getting a B in IB HL classes equivalent to and A in AP classes?
For example: biology or history

no.

Nope. I’m doing great in AP but suck at anything math related.Which is why I’m not planning on taking AP Calc.

I do both, but not shooting for the IB Diploma.

IB is definitely more rigorous, curricula-wise. Grades/homework-wise, it depends on the teacher.

IB Diploma Candidate with 12 AP tests (10 5s, 2 4s) under my belt and I must say, IB is much more rigorous than AP. If you’re not going for the diploma and just taking a few IB SLs, then yes, a full AP course load would be tougher. However, IB HLs exceed AP in difficulty dramatically even though the former allots 2 years of study, and being an IB diploma candidate is much more of a challenge than taking six or seven APs, given the extra work (ToK, internals, CAS, EE) that IB requires.
