I am like middiesmom...I bought what I put in my packages. I believe the chaplain center asked for these first shipments to be put in plastic containers as the mids will need something to store their goodies in. As far as packaging real live cookies...I'd like to hear suggestions on that one also. Maybe I will try that for the second go round. I remember my college roomie getting cookie crumbs several times a year...that would be my end result as well I am afraid!!

I enlisted the help of my friends with this project. One of my friends has tons and tons of trial size stuff that she saves for a variety of things. In cleaning out my son's room- I found tons of unopened shampoos, toothpaste, etc- which were stocking stuffers at Christmas- since Ihave two more boxes for shipping- I will be sending these off with a big one for my son. Great idea given to me by my mentor family- when you have heavy items like powdered gatorqade- etc- purchase the post office ones which cost about 8 dollars- you can stuff whatever- in it- weight doesn't matter- if it fits in the box they will ship it for 8 dollars-Since no one has taken G- 13 and 14- I will send something out to them:

OK Ya'll - this is a fabulous idea - my question to you is how did you get the info from the chaplain ect - I have heard nothing - maybe because Fergsonfire only puts his Dad's address down and not mine?? Can I request I be sent the info as well??

I wanted to pass along a cookie packaging suggestion.

When a friend's husband was overseas, she packed his favorite Toll House Cookies in empty Pringles cans. I realize you gals (and guys) have a large order to fill, but request empty tubes from your neighbors and friends at church. Ask permission to place a drop off box at your churches, post office and libraries so that you will have a steady source of "cookie tubes".

Plebes at West Point are not allowed such luxuries as cookies from home until after Beast is over. Must be like summer camp at Annapolis just like I have heard.

SO HERE IS THE UPDATED LIST AS OF 7/5/06 1200 hours!!!

For those interested in helping, we still have 10 companies in need of sponsorship! Please sign up so that we have a mid in each company recieving a care package!

Spidermom, sistersunnie and Fergismom: thank you for your interest and support; please copy/paste the above list and add your name to a company that is not yet claimed!

For those adding to the list, be sure to copy /paste the LAST POSTED LIST so that we can keep it current with new additions!

REMINDER: the chaplins have requested all packages be received by 7/11/06....so fire up those ovens!!!

PACKAGING:
Cookies: seperate with wax paper, place in zip-lock, wrap bag in bubble wrap- it works!!! That pringel-can idea is great!!!
Care Packages: the post office has flat-rate shipping boxes that they issue FREE....costs $8 regardless of weight- so pack away!!!!
If sending food items, the chaplins have requested sending them in a plastic box (rubbermaid / tupperware type plastic container the size of a shoebox).....that will fit in the flat rate shipping box, so that the Mid will have a permanent container going forward!

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!! LETS TRY AND GET THE FINAL 10 COMPANIES COVERED!!! IF THE PLEBES CAN DO IT, SO CAN WE!!!! WE ARE AT 75%.....LETS MAKE IT 100%!!!!!!

A couple of suggestions for all of the bakers....If you can get tins instead of the plastic shoebox it is much better at keeping the mice out of the food. My son told the tale of his baked goods that became eaten by some of the mice and he was not a happy camper. I found some tins at the store and sent the next batch that way. They held up great and the mice were not a problem. Also, brownies baked in muffin tins hold up well during shipping. It is better to grease the pan really well versus utilizing papers. They do not crumble this way and we all know that cleanliness is key during Plebe Summer. I was on the Yard the other day picking up my son from his training. I could see many Plebes having rack races through the windows. Also, quite a few returning from swimming and marching along loudly singing their cadences. It appeared to be business as usual on the Yard.

okay navy2010- you threw out the challenge- so I packed up another box of goodies to see if we can hit 100%. I personally think I am becoming close personal friends with the people at the post office- think when I drop this one off- I am going to hit another post office- I think this is one awesome idea- lets do it!

Thank goodness for already packaged fruit leather, rice krispy treats & granola bars. :) No time to bake for jamzmom.... Anyhow, just a reminder not to put any kind of soap product in with a food box. No matter how well you wrap things even in airtight containers, the cookies will pick up a detergent taste. Learned that tip from the anysoldier.com website where I've sent a few boodle boxes to soldiers.

Ok. Look it. There are just a few more. C'mon. There is still time. If you use the flat rate postal box, it will be still there in time if you can ship it tomorrow.

That leaves only 6 companies not covered!!! Come on all CC posters! We need coverage for Alpha, Delta, all of E, I and L!!! WE CAN DOT THIS!!! Lets not leave any company behind!! (will make one last request on the company post thread!)

IF your package is already on its way- thank you so much! You have all been troopers!
