Calling all College of Chemistry students...

I'm starting my junior year at Cal this Fall. What are your schedules like? Just wanna see who's sharing my classes. Here's mine:

CHEM 104A
CHEM 120A
NUC ENG 101
MAT SCI 120
CHEM 143 (maybe)

Also, anyone going to the Chancellor "party?"

Anybody? :(

wow thats hardcore.........

Are u in the college of chem? I guess I'm the only one...sigh So lonely...

I was in the college of chemistry. It's a great place to be. Smaller student body. Personala attention. CAL is #1 for its Chemistry dept so you're in good hands!

Cool! Where u at now if you were in college of chem? Yeah, we got lots of attention at CALSO alright. There were only 12 of us in that group. :)

Whoa really, only 12? That's amazing! Well, I'll be a freshman at Stanford in the fall. I "was in" the college of chemistry when they accepted me in April. Sorry I guess it came out wrong.

Hi, Suzzieq. I am also a junior next sem at Cal, CHE/ MATE double major. My schedule isn't set yet, but i'm tentatively taking:

Eng 45 & Lab
Possibly Chem 120a
Chem E 140
Physics 7c (partial likely, I missed quantum at my cc)
Maybe History139c (social movements or something)

Not sure what the chancellor party is, i'm in the area already, though, so let me know. I still need to take the acs exam. I'm rust on organic, so i'll be studying for that in the coming weeks.

:)
Angela.

Cool, don't worry about acs exam. It's pretty easy if you're good at multiple choice.

Glad to hear you're in the College of Chem too. I was starting to get worried. So, if you take CHEM 120A don't forget me if you wanna start a study group.

I just got an invitation by mail to a reception hosted by the Chancellor and his wife at the University house. The dates are Aug 23,24, and 25 depending on which residence hall you're in. I don't know if I'm gonna go coz it's only for an hour and a half. Besides, attire is business casual. I'm not sure where all my business casual wardrobe is at. I'm used to wearing jeans and t-shirts to school lol :)

See you at our other orientation on Aug 24th!

See you then. If I don't have to retake ALL of 7c, i'm going to take 120a, i'll let you know send me a private message with your e-mail and i'll e-mail you.

Well, i'm not staying in the residence halls, so that may be why I never got the invite. I ditched all of my business casual when I quit my job to come here:D

Take care and see ya soon! Oh, and CHEM ROCKS!

-A

suzzieq....may I ask why you are taking Mat Sci 120 and Nuke E 101 at the same time? Are you a double major? The reason being is because I am a double major at the college of chem myself. I am in the ChemE / Nuke E double major program. However, I am not taking Mat Sci 120 but am taking NE 101 this fall semester. Just a little confused.

Oh btw.... here is my first semester course list.....

EECS 40
ChemE 140
NUKE E 101
Education 98
Urdu 101

Hi mosharma,

I'm just a Chem major, and I've decided not to take mat sci. I'll be taking nuc eng 101, chem 120a, chem 104a, and stat 134 and maybe chem 143. I'll just be fulfilling major and allied subject reqs. I'm done with breadth, writing, foreign lang, american cultutres, and history. That leaves me with my chem courses and at least 9 units of allied subjects for now.

Are we ready for school? :)

Wow suzzieq....looks like you do have a busy schedule. Maybe we can be study partners for Nuke 101. Professor Morse is quite popular when it comes to Nuclear Engineering. The reason being is because I have seen him on the news talking about the benefits/effects of Nuclear Power Energy when Prez Bush signed the Energy Bill. Pretty cool considering that you will be taking a class with him.

Yeah, I would like to study for nuc eng together. Sounds like Prof Morse may be a pretty good teacher.

I have a pretty busy schedule, but I may end up dropping chem 143. I'll see how well I can manage when school starts.

Nice to hear. Btw, does anyone know how to drop or add a course once the semester starts? Is it handled all throughout TeleBears or is there a special process that we need to go through. THanks,

I think we use telebears for adding/dropping classes. I don't know how else to do it.

hi.
since we have all the college of chemistry students in one place, please answer these questions, thanks!

1) Do i need to take the chem sat ii for admissions? Does it strengthen the chance of admissions if i do? (Right now i'm at 33 ACT composite, 800 math iic, and 790 bioM, incoming senior, 4.2-4.3 UC gpa.)

2) i'm applying for the chemical biology major. what are your tips on the personal statement: "advised to discuss interest in prospective major," if i haven't explored this field with ECs and such in H.S.?

hey, Mosharma, i'm interested to see how you like the EECS40 class (microelec circuits), most of the double majors are taking EE100 I think, but 40 sounds cooler, though I hear it is a weeder. Let me know.

My scheduled for fall is:

Chem120a
ChemE140
Eng45 & Lab
History 139C

I was given the ok on the physics courses for transfer, I think i'll be learning a lot of the quantum stuff in Physical Chem 120a anyhow.

altf4, sorry, can't help ya, i'm a junior transfer and so are a couple others in this thread.

Good luck to everyone this semester.
Angela.

hi chemeng1, yes most double majors (including ChemE/NE) are required to take EECS 100 because it is not intended for EECS majors. However, since I would like to change my major (yes, i know I probably don't have chance since I am a junior transfer), I am required to take EECS 40. Yet, does anyone know how much harder is EECS 40 than EECS 100? I am not totally changing my major but would just like to go from ChemE/NE to EECS/NE since EECS/NE focuses more generally on electrical power generation (which I think is pretty cool).

Double majors Can take either course I believe. I just wonder what the difference in course content is overall.

Good luck on the switch.
