calling all Duke sophomores

What is your schedule looking like next fall (indicate Pratt or Trinity)? Now that you have more freedom in your schedule, what have you decided to take?

Trinity:
http://pic11.picturetrail.com/VOL362/1585668/8016145/152871036.jpg

I'm pretty happy because I hate early classes and I like having entire days off/long stretches of time to get a lot of work done. This is pretty much the perfect schedule for me...well, it would be a little nicer if my day off was Friday instead of Tuesday, but hey...you can't have everything. And, considering the fact that I'm overloading, it's not too class-heavy (in my opinion) for a 5 credit schedule. But, yeah - to sum up my choices, I'm testing out CulAnth (since I may be interested in a double-major in it and even if I'm not it counts for a certificate program and a minor I might consider), taking 1 fun random class, continuing Spanish (because I love it), and taking 2 Psych classes (since I'm pretty sure that's what I'm majoring in). So, there ya go. Even as a sophomore, I'm still exploring my options, because I'm very much not decided yet on what I want to do with my life/what I want to study.

Oh, and my Monday looks hellish, but considering the fact that the 1st, 3rd, and 4th class all meet in the same building and the 2nd class meets in the building literally about...20 steps away...it's not that bad. But if you have to make any East-West switches, that's not a Monday you want to have. Just a warning.

http://bygmester.org/tentativeschedule.jpg

I've got extracurricular stuff interleaved with all of those bits. This is what comes of being a Pratt major with a second major in Trinity, and then taking Arabic for S&Gs on top of that.

let's see...

Schedule for next semester:
http://photo-origin.tickle.com/image/115/4/9/O/115490760O259613533.jpg

Schedule from last semester:

Schedule from first semster:
http://photo-origin.tickle.com/image/115/4/9/O/115491181O819649909.jpg

So my first semester's schedule looks worse than it was... the "dance" class was basically us sitting around discussing a certain type of political theater... no actual dancing was done. Also, I only went to chem lecture on fridays when we had tests, so I normally didn't "have" class on friday.

My schedule for the upcoming semester is as bad as it looks... they say it's difficult to take orgo and cell bio at the same time. We'll see how it goes. Plus, I don't mind as much because I'm not pre-med. I might be pre-graduate school, but I'm kind of hoping that the applicant pool for whatever grad school(s) I apply to will be significantly smaller. I also did some research and found that the acceptees into Duke's genetic program have an average college GPA of 3.6, which I think is manageable.

Trinity

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v28/SNS1011/fallschedule.jpg

That's a major improvement from 4 8:30s, 5 classes MW, 4F, 1-2 Th Th that I had with my original fall 06 schedule. Seriously. I'm happy. I feel like I'm not in Pratt so I shouldn't torture myself as much as Joe:)

Anyway, I really can't complain. That one class, which isn't really even a class class on Thursdays is wonderful. It sucks that I have a 1/2 hour to get from Gross Chem to West or East Duke or whatever, but I'll make it. I scheduled my Spanish on east too, so that's nice. Basically, I'm just trying to figure out why I couldn't have this many classes on east as a freshman...

Anyway, a nice improvement from going 8:30-5:40 half the week last semester!

points and laughs at those taking Chem 151 (especially if you have Widenhoefer)
Chem 151 and Bio 118, seahorse? That'll be rough. I've heard Bio 118 is easier in the fall, though.

Meh. Still don't have much in the way of flexibility. Can't wait until I have the econ core done. I'll probably have to change the stat section I fought so hard to get into too, unless someone invents a teleportation device between now and when class starts. :p

warblers-

tell me about Widenhoefer. I've heard horror stories, especially with the tests, and now I want to cry. lol.

it seems like most of you had / have classes on friday... i thought the college weekend began on thurs... =

If I had finished my language requirement already, I could have easily managed a schedule with no Friday classes.

the college wknd does begin on thurs--
when i had fri classes i'd get everything finished early enough to go out on thursday night. no biggie, it's common at duke. (and everywhere else)

"it seems like most of you had / have classes on friday... i thought the college weekend began on thurs"

Oh, it does... that was the real reason why I never made it to chem lecture on Fridays first semester. :)

And warblers, yeah, I'm going to have my work cut out for me next semester. I have heard that Bio 118 is easier in the fall. I have a bunch of friends who took it and I'm going to ask them for advice/notes, etc. Do you have any words of wisdom for dealing with orgo with Widenhoefer?

Oh, it totally does. People just party and then go to class on Friday. That's just why most people don't want an EARLY Friday class.

my dream friday (if there must be class) is an 11:55-- meaning its a MWF class so its less than an hour and late enough to not worry about the night before. priceless. that's the gem of finding a MWF class rather than a WF class, because less time to sit.

Haha thanks =)

I'm so excited btw

ugh. i wish i didnt have FOUR classes on friday. that's one drawback of my schedule. eww.

Ahh...just looking at these schedules makes me so happy I'm a non-pre-med, non-science-major in Trinity....I seriously don't know how you guys do it.

yeah we just skip class.

i kid. atleast in my case...I feel guilty not going. i don't know how im gonna do this. Last semester I withdrew from a class so 2 days a week I just went to ballet and then did my homework. Now I actually have to do things.

Yea, be careful about skipping class. We did the math once, and if you skip a class you will have wasted about $115, depending on your course load. That's ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN DOLLARS AN HOUR. Insane...to say the least.

I mean, yeah, it's insane, but if you're skipping classes you're the type of person who doesn't care about the money its wasting.
