Sorry to Hijack this thread but I had a pretty simple follow up question to the OP and didn't want to start a whole new thread for it. Is there any advantage, in terms of being accepted to a Top 10 medical school (according to News week), going to Duke for biomed instead of Michigan? Do duke kids have an advantage (especially with the uni name) over Mich kids?

Neomanxl, did you not read post 17 above?

"Duke and Michigan are virtually identical in terms of academic excellence and prestige. Just look at the Peer Assessment score in the USNWR. Michigan has a peer rating of 4.5/5.0. Duke's peer rating is actually slightly lower at 4.4/5.0. In academic circles, Michigan is definitely as prestigious as Duke."

That's the same USNWR that ranks the top 10 Medical schools you asked about. Do you think those university presidents and deans have a different opinion than Medical School adcoms? Probably not.

So, to answer your question, no, there is no advantage in attending Duke over Michigan. Attending a top 10 or top 15 university may improve a Medical school applicant's chances of admission, but since Michigan is a top 10 or top 15 university, attending Duke will not give the student an advantage when applying to top medical schools.
