Calling all Juniors!

Corinao, 4 math classes in a year?!

I think it's because in many colleges, math courses are a semester, trimester, or a quarter long. Differential equations and linear algebra in my university, for example, are only a quarter long; multivariable calculus two quarters, real analysis two quarters.

Also vegangirl, your stats look pretty good for Georgetown with good courses and excellent ECs - I think it can more accurately be called a fit. But take my words with a grain of salt.

Rank/GPA: 2/170; 4.7W, 3.9UW
Most important EC's: Boy Scouts, Junior State of America, Academic Decathlon, Band (Clarinet), Junior Leadership Training Conference, hopefully NHS
Study Plans for PSAT/SAT/ACT: Taking the October 8th SAT (self-studied over the summer) and the PSAT in October also

hey simfish, thanks :) I'm a little obsessed with georgetown, so I hope I'll have a chance next year, but we'll see how it goes. I guess I need to survive jr year first! btw, your schedule is just wow- not for the weak of heart. you're a brave soul for taking on all those HL classes. but you seem like you're ready to handle it. good luck!

Actually, that was my original plan (I actually know people in my school with even more seemingly impossible course loads, who have 6 HL classes, as contrasted to my planned 5 HL classes). But an early entrance program accepted me so I've escapted that schedule.

For example, one of my classmates has this schedule:

IB Mathematics HL
IB Physics HL
IB Biology HL
IB Spanish HL
IB English HL
IB History of Americas HL
IB Chemistry SL
And I think she's also doing music too. Just...wow...

Good luck with Georgetown, vegangirl! Placing 3rd in National History Day is a very very impressive accomplishment and outgrowing your high school courses in math and having to take them at a community college is also impressive. Is history your passion? I think you can also be competitive at Ivy League (if you apply) but many universities have arbitrary admissions so that kind of hurts.

Most important EC's: Theatre...it's a huge part of my life. Actually, it is my life. I think coming home after rehearsal is a waste of time. They ought to let me sleep in the theatre, it'd save so much time. Oh, and I work at a local ice cream shop. "Would you like some whipped cream with that?"
Study Plans for PSAT/SAT/ACT: I think I'll eschew the PSAT and buy myself a burrito with the 13 bucks instead. I am, however, studying massively for the SAT. I'm one of those lopsided people with high CR/W scores and such low math scores you wouldn't believe it. I have a bunch of prep books and am using the Xiggi method.
