So, I assume that some of you have jobs.

What kind of jobs do you work while in med school?

Does the Bachelor's degree you earned help you out any in finding a high-paying job so that you don't go bankrupt in med school?

I don't think any of my classmates hold jobs.

From the med students I know, most (if not all) don't have jobs. Most just take out loans. Some take jobs teaching for Kaplan or TPR.

So for all you premeds- Do you think it matters whether or not you choose an undergrad college known for their excellent pre-med bio program but is not known outside this relm (small LAS in the East) or would you choose the larger of the two with a more diverse curriculum, more widely known (but because of their business program) in case you need a safety net major other than bio.

I have a couple of colleagues who do work...but it's very irregular. A couple tend bar or are doormen at drinking establishments where they worked in college, there are a couple Kaplan instructors, a couple girls babysit on the weekends...but that's about it. Nobody has what you'd call a regular job.

isn't working while in med school just plain suicide?

I know a couple current med students who are teaching for Kaplan or Princeton review, and I'm in Kaplan training right now so that I have the option during school, and some students have a lab job, but the overwhelming majority of those I've talked to don't work at all.

Whats important is the average(or median) # of hours studied per/week in med-school.
