I am an Indian living in Dubai , United arab emirates . I got to an Indian school over here which provides us with CBSE curriculum. I am currently in Grade 12 and wish and plan to go to the U.S. for my further studies. I plan to take up mechanical engineering. My Details are as follows :-

1)High school marks - Grade 9 - 76.5%
Grade 10- 77.8%
Grade 11 - 57.5%
Grade 12 - Expected grades given 90% by the school for the CBSE board exam Got 90% in the school exams as well

2) No Extra Curricular activities as school does not facilities

3) SAT 1 - 2000

4) SAT 2 - Math 710
Physics 730
Math 2 - 700

What should i do so that i get in to a good school .. i have time till November .. I also want to know that to which universities i should be applying to . I also want to clarify that money, climate and other stuff doesn't matter, i want to get into a college/university with good academic reputation and when i do finish my Undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from there i should get a good job.

I'm not sure about how your grading system works, so I can't really tell you your chances at any schools, but I can give you the US News and World Report Rankings for Mechanical Engineering...Good Luck.

Your SATs are fine if you do not intend to go to the tip top schools. However your grades seem problematic. If you grading scale is based on 100% being the highest then it is going to be tough for you to get into any american school. So in your situation it may be better for you to get your undergrad degree from an university in your country and then go to graduate school in America.

If you are determined to get into an american school for mechanical engineering then I will tell you that it really does not matter what engineering school you attend if you just want to get a mechanical engineering job, any one will do as long as your degree is ABET accredited. So look for engineering schools that have a low threshold for being admitted.

Your Grade 11 grades seem low. And the fact that your school does not offer any extracurricular activities should not hinder you from taking activities outside your school.

Your grades: unless you were a very poor student most of the time, which I'm assuming is not the case, you need these to be viewed in the context of your school. (When I went to school in England decades ago, a 75 would often put one #1 in the class in a given subject.) What is your class rank? What are the average grades at your school?

Did you take the CBSE exams in 10th grade and how did you do on them? I understand that there are also CBSE exams aimed at prospective engineers: did you take those and if so how did you do?

Was your education in Dubai conducted in English or Hindi? If not English, you will need to take the TOEFL.

ECs do not have to be school-related clubs. Any activity that you pursue on your own time is an EC. Club sports? Music? Art? Writing a novel? Volunteer work? A job? Babbysitting siblings while your parents work?

You don't appear to have the grades or scores required to get into most of the schools on Dbate's list. A few may be possible, assuming that your grades translate into a good class rank. I suggest that you purchase a good college guide or two, and look at the acceptance stats. You should also go to the websites of the schools, and search for the Common Data Set--the data submitted to USN&WR--which will give you much more information. There's another college stats site called something like UCANN that you should check out.

And lastly, make sure that you read the information on international applications and international financial aid for each school carefully!

I have many EC's outside the school :-
I am a student at David lloyds tennis academy
I have played soccer for 4 years in school
I have been working part time in a software company during summer vacation's.
I have done some volunteer work at the red Cross charity foundation.
I can swim , play basketball , soccer , squash , tennis , Table tennis , cricket .
I have done a lot of babysitting for my cousins
I have taken a skydiving course in Genting,Malaysia

You need to explain in your essay why your Grade 11 grades dropped so much. Also, your "outside of school" activities are EC's and you can explain that your school did not have the facilities for ECs but you sought them on your own. Also, you might want to apply to some "safety schools" like Illinois Tech, Michigan Tech, Cal Poly SLO or Pomona etc.

Cal Poly SLO is NOT a safety school for mechanical engineering. It's pretty selective by major. I know many kids with higher than 3.8 gpa (uw), higher than 2100 sats (but they don't look at the writing), and good ecs that did not get into Cal Poly Slo engineering...

I have Spoken to my parents and have come to a conclusion that they will send me anywhere in the world (No limits on cost , and location) for my undergraduate degree , Provided it ( university/college) has quality education , good reputation , and the degree which i obtain at the end should be well renowned over the world and can give me super job placement.

So please inform or let me about such universities (anywer in the world) where i will be accepted
