about getting into "the new england prep schools"; i was going to apply to andover, exeter, whatever, but then i decided against it. i got a 93 % on ssat's, had a 4.0 gpa from a public school with all honors taken, and took ten dance classes a week, volunteered, and played sports. i am pretty sure i could have gotten accepted. the thing is i found a boarding school that i loved and even though it didn't have the repuatation of andover or exeter, i decided on going there. i found that there were grounded, fun people there. i suggest you look at a bunch of different schools. if i was you, i would go to boardingschoolreview.com and look at all of the different boarding schools

Wow. You've like got all my stats. Except for the fact that you're taking 10 dance classes a week. Lucky!
I totally understand what you're saying. I have two schools I'm applying to for the same reason. I've got one that's a local magnet program and another that's an all girl school. It's amazing how sweet everyone was there with no boys to fight about!I'd go in a heartbeat but my parents are really pushing Choate

tj, let's just say I got a 99% on the SAT. You started to sweat during your interview? Man, I was so calm it was like I was speaking to a fellow colleague or a friend. I had nothing to lose anyways, so why lose my sanity?

tj, since you and I are in the 10th grade, I say by next year; should we get accepted at the same school, ya know, come around like homies and stuff. However, we should intend to pump up the institutional EC's as it is the final year before Harvard/MIT/yeh. I don't intend on sleeping at these schools. Caffeine is my friend.

Very nicely done! 99%! Congrats.

I could get 800 on my verbal if I took it now, but I shudder to think about what my math score would be. I fully intend to study like hell for it.

Absolutely. I'm trying to look at all the clubs at the various schools I'm applying to, and see what I could start/join. The theatre stuff at all the schools sounds awesome, but I am a bit worried about sports. I work out like hell, but I'm not coordinated enough to do anything sports related.

I am worried though. Eleventh grade is when I have to kick into high gear and really impress. But this is my tenth grade. I'm taking only 3 AP exams this year, and already my immune system is starting to fall apart. I think you have the right answer, J- caffeine.

Since we're on the school subject, here is a question that has been bothering me. Seeing as I do want to lessen my stress in the upcoming year as much as possible, I would really like to prep for my classes during what free time I have in the summer. Do they sort out your classes before summer? Will I know what to study for?

<edit> Oh yea, I was exactly like that except for one moment. During my last interview, I had answered all the questions before. But then he asked a question I hadn't been asked before, and it kinda threw me. No big deal, though.</edit>

For me, I pray I get into TASP this summer. No prepping for me this summer, just the usual intuition for courses...no study; all brains. Hehehehe...

99% on SAT,,,typo? ten classes a week, so two a day?

No typo citygirlsmom. I took the SAT, not the SSAT. The only prep I did was from a 10 Real Sat's Book.

my question was do they give 99% on sat, why not give your numbers

True True. Percentiles out of 99 are given. However I say, if the score looks good, then it's good. Here in Canada; a 1400+ by senior year applications can get one into the top tier colleges like MIT, Harvard, etc. Canadians will it's easy to attain an 800 on the SAT however, they will struggle largely to the subjective Verbal part. Even the Ivy League bound would find the test scores around to be 600ish for Verbal. However, I've seen people get into Harvard, Yale, and Princeton this way. I've yet to see an MITer in Canada though.

I have a question: Has anyone recieved any feedback on their applications????? I'm going out of my mind here!!!!

Good news! All Choate applicants dont have to wait for their decisions to get too them after march 10. You guys probably all know this, but i can't help celebrating!

I'm assuming you got some form of Choate acceptance? Wow that's early...

I mean by mail. We can get them on the net.Sry, i completely forgot to put that in.

hey, so where are ya'll applying? im hoping to get in to the lawrenceville school

oh yeah i'm applying to choate too! i got that letter the other day...did your interview go well? i think mine went pretty well, but im not a legacy or anything so my chances are pretty slim everywhere. I did apply to six schools though, so I'm hoping to get in where i want

I'm an 8th grade homeschooler applying for 9th grade at Andover, Exeter, St.Paul's and Hotchkiss. I got a 90 on verbal, a 93 for math and an 85 for reading. Total percentile came out to an 89.33 It was good enough for A Better Chance, a program for students of color to refer my app to Andover,Exeter and St.Paul's. My essay, recs, interview, resume, ecs and everything else were all tight. I sent thank you and holiday cards to my interviewers, tour guides and the admissions office. My interview for Exeter was fabulous and went so well the lady invited me to join her for dinner. Anyway, test scores are important, but they weigh other things too. These schools want kids who are versatile and who will excel both in and oustide of the classroom. At the end of the day, it's a balance. If you score a 99 percentile on your SSATs but your writing skills suck or you have no ecs, you may not hold a chance. So just remember, it's a balance.

i agree completely. we're all out there for the same reason and most of us who apply to the top schools are all applying to the same ones because we all have awesome credentials...so we all have such a low chance i dont think we even realize it. i'm starting to worry a lot more about it day after day. i go to a private school that is really not right for me, i want to have so much more. i applied to groton, choate, deerfield, hotchkiss, lawrenceville, and the hill school. i know i definitely dont want to go to the hill school, but all the others are possibilities. its just good to know that there other kids out there worrying like i am. i'm on spring break march 10th, and knowing that the letters are sitting in my mailbox is going to kill me!

My interview at choate went really well, laurenceville. The guy told my grandmother i was very cerebral and he could definitely see me in the theatre department.
I'm not too worried about not being a legacy. It'smore of a challenge.

you're into theatre?? me too, choates program is sooo awesome, im sure you checked out the paul mellon center, but isnt it amazing!! i really hope i get in. where else are you applying?

I loved the theatre theretoo! it was all set up for christmas carol and looked great.
I love music, i'm a trained soprano and love dancing(tap especially). I'm very dramatic and can't wait to got to choate. please let me in.
Actually, i like all the schools im aplying to.
Im applying to loomis, taft, westover and choate. couldn't handle anymore paperwork.
If we both go we'll have to keep in touch and meet. coool.
