ok, sorry to everyone that was rejected (including me). Where is everyone planning on going?

Anyway, while I'm disappointed, I kind of expected it. I still love Cornell, and I would love to try to transfer after a year (unless I end up loving nyu more than cornell). But I have a question - will it look bad to admissions when they see my transfer app that they already rejected me? Or will it look good because it shows I have a strong interest in their school?

Still not sure I'm transferring though, it's just a thought.

if you decide to apply as a transfer, they won't know that you didn't get in this year. so, don't worry about it. I wish you the best of luck at NYU, btw.

Good luck with your transfer :)
I'm going to Berkeley, but I'll take my place on the waitlist for Duke and Columbia...I'll decide if I get in to either of the schools...

But for now - Berzerkeley forever!

don't they ask on the application, "have you ever applied to our school before?"

I only applied to four schools including Cornell.
Got waitlisted at BC.
Got into Penn State.
Waiting on William and Mary.
I think I'm going to Penn State.
My best friend is most likely going to NYU. Good Luck at NYU

good luck with BC and W&M. Penn state is also a great school, Ash.
I actually don't know if I'm going to NYU for sure. It's expensive and they're giving me no aid, only suggest I take out loans. I might have to commute from home to save myself $13,000.

chazz - yep I think they do ask that one the application. That's why I was wondering - it is bad/good that you applied previously? You can make an argument for either side. But I still don't know if I'm going to transfer. I mean, let's say I got to NYU and love it and have tons of friends, why would I leave it for a school that has already rejected me? on the other hand, if my college experience next year is okay, then maybe I'll transfer. who knows.

yeah i agree. i think im actually going to NYU too, after being deferred from ED and waitlisted from RD by cornell. i think it won't go against u, if they realize u already applied. it shows you really want to go to their school. so g'luck, and amybe ill c u at nyu next year

If you were rejected and apply for transfer it won't count against you. I was rejected from CAS...applied for transfer to CALS and was accepted.

Just work hard in the college you end up at...maintain at least a 3.0 (although I suggest doing much better than that) and present a strong application.

I planning on majoring in Chemistry, because I want to go medical school. Do you think that it is better to go to a school like Penn State and be among the top of my class or go to a more challenging school and be in the middle of the road?

Molly- I know what you mean about NYU and their financial aid. My friend did not get any financial aid at all. She is torn between McGill and NYU because of the lack of financial aid at NYU.

Some will say that where you go matters....but I tend to disagree. Being pre-med anywhere is difficult, so I recommend going somewhere that you feel will make you happiest. If you go to Penn State and find you really love it, don't leave!

Yes...academic rigor can differ between schools...but that's what the MCAT is there for.

CAS/CALS reject here, going to Fordham in the fall...I think.

I'll likely apply to plenty of schools for transfer, including Cornell.

going to william and mary in the fall. or georgetown, if i get off the waitlist. i'll probably try and transfer somewhere that has a really good polisci/govt program since it's hard to make a living with that degree unless you get lots of connections. i might end up wanting to go into law but i'm not sure now.

thanks for all the perspectives guys
jeydomz - I am also considering fordham RH
chazz - good luck with nyu, doubt I'll c u there cause I'm doing gsp, what about you?

anyway transferring is a definite option - should I transfer after a full year or semester? depends on how strong my app is at that point I guess.
nyu is giving me no money, I'm still waiting to hear on scholarships. I'm thinking I'll live at home the first year and commute, then try to transfer after a year.
or maybe I should go to binghamton, save myself the money, and then transfer.
do you think transferring from nyu will give me a better chance than transferring from binghamton?

penn state=full ride
stil considering university of delaware though. im ruled out virginia tech and george mason and ive given up on UVA's waitlist...its insane

Penn State or Pitt for me. I got rejected/wait listed everywhere. I guess I am one of those sad story kids everybody doesn't want to be...

Molly....you must wait at least 1 year. Cornell will not accept you for transfer until you've had full year of undergraduate study.

Engineering erect here. I'm deciding between University of Rochester and RIT (hopefully honors) now... it's going to depend mostly on $$$ at this point, but I really loved Rochester (even more than my visit to Cornell... although I've tried to tell myself otherwise... but now that I'm out of Cornell I don't mind re-loving U of R). So I'm really hoping for Rochester now.

Anyone else applied to Rochester or RIT?

I was going to edit that message, but 'erect' is far too funny a typo...

thanks dewdrop, that's what I figured. It would be so embarassing tho, If I were to get rejected as a transfer. That's like my worst nightmare.
Well hopefull I will do well in nyu, since I'm in the gsp program which has fairly small classes and from what I've heard is easier to do well in. On the downside, cornell might not take me as seriously since I'm in gsp.

Do you think it will make a difference in the admissions process if I apply to cornell as a transfer from binghamton rather than nyu? I'd save a lot of money that way.
