Calling All Texans

We found Trinity University in San Antonio to be very generous with scholarship & financial aid. The campus is beautiful.

^ Yes, Trinity can give out great merit to high stats kids. I thought that the campus was really pretty. Actually liked it better than Rice campus.

ask a better question - recommend for what? what program? i can list you 40 public college/universities in the state

@LamarAcademy As I mentioned earlier, student wants to go with undecided major. He is intellectually curious and wants an education, doesn’t want to pick a trade or profession at this point.

OU will give you money for nmf and based on stats the 3 private schools used nixed can be very generous when it comes to merit aid not saying do it but you never know

I think the big two are hard to go in completely undecided, because if what you decide on is one of the hard-to-get-into majors, internal transfers can be hard to achieve. Sometimes external transfers are more successful.

Without more information, I’m having a hard time advising you.

How about this? More a humanities kid, fine arts kid or STEM?
Care about sports?
Want a greek culture or not a greek culture?
Urban or suburban?
Could you give us a sense of budget as well as your EFC?

General stats of the applicant?

There are some merit scholarships for some of the privates. If your child is high stats, private may be better than public if what you’re wanting is one the small-medium size, which is what I’m gathering.

I might look at TCU too.

UTD and UH are commuter schools, even if they have some residents. Very different feel from many of the others. will need to be a main point of consideration.

Admission to UT will be almost impossible if not top 7%. (if school doesn’t rank, you’re not top 7%). even if ivy-level stats, very tough. Merit aid here and A&M will be tough.

Be open to schools like Trinity and Southwestern especially (and consider SMU, TCU and Rice). Run net price calculators at privates to see if they’ll be affordable. Both Trinity and Southwestern did NOT offer as much aid as their NPCs stated though, so keep that in mind.

As for the rest, they all have their pros/cons. NPCs for the big publics are pretty bad, don’t waste your time with them.
