Just a friendly discussion: Is anyone on this board interested in transferring to Swarthmore? If so, why? What are your stats?

Well, I know the Tulane kid is planning to transfer back to Swat. But his situation is a bit unique.

Was he a Tulane kid who attended Swat b/c of the hurricane you mean? I guess he liked Swat better, or had he been a freshman?

He was a Tulane kid who was displaced. He had been accepted to Swat, but took Tulane because it gave him more money I believe. Now they're sending him back after this semester, but he wants to stay apparently. That's what I know.

NJPitcher is pretty accurate. Nikhil will probably be applying transfer for next year. He currently is a freshman.

Not a good position to be in - but if he does get in, he can tell his grandkids about how Swat and his life were interconnected, and how he inevitably landed there - despite choosing some other place initially.

I want to transfer into Swarthmore, but I am wondering how many transfers they typically admit in a given year. My stats are hardly stellar enough, with my board scores at 1430 in SAT (old SAT for the young'ns), 33 ACT, a 3.8 gpa in my old cc's honor program. I guess I am going to Northwestern this quarter (not too happy about it, thus the "I guess").

I have just come off of a disappointing college app season, thus I don't have too much hope in transferring to swat. But I would like to do it....

Anyone else?

mdurkes,
During the last 4 years Swarthmore has accepted between 10 and 27 transfer students.

Personally, I was rejected from Swarthmore flat out of high school, when it was my first choice. Then I was accepted after freshman year of college, with a 3.56 GPA and good ECs and essays and an SAT of 1480, but overall nothing too stellar according to my thoughts. (didn't transfer there... don't want to get into that) So it's def possible. Best of luck to you. Northwestern is a great school, btw, with definitely some overlap in quality of students to Swarthmore, so don't feel like you have to get out of it just b/c it was one of your last choice schools or something. Transferring will be easier if you focus on being picky about what you DO want that may be similar or different from your current institution, instead of just having the "I've got to get out of here" mindset. Just a few words of wisdom from someone whose made mistakes...

I'm confused though, were you a community college student or just someone who took community college classes instead of high school? Because Swat only accepts sophomores and juniors.

I'm thinking about transferring to Swat. I had a 3.84 in hs, with a 34 ACT and I got rejected the first time around. I'm applying as a transfer for next year with straight A's coming out of an Ivy, so we'll see what happens...
