Calling all transfers!

Just figured I'd give a shout out to any hopeful/definite transfers--I just got back from Ithaca and I've decided to go ahead with my CALS guaranteed transfer for Fall 2005. :) If anyone else is transferring, speak up! I'd like to get to know some of you.

As for the Class of '09...congrats, and I look forward to meeting you as well. :)

I'm a prospective transfer from the University of Florida. (Not a guaranteed transfer, didn't apply as freshman). I am applying to the college of engineering as an Engineering Physics major.

Eddie, where did you go to high school? I have a lot of friends at UF (probably more than half my graduating class went there). I actually transferred to Cornell from USF last year.

Hello!

I'm a hopeful transfer.
I applied last year and got in, but due to a lot of contributing factors, decided not to got there. Yeah, I know. But anyway, I'm reapplying, and hopefully, re-getting in. Sociology major in CAS.

Nice to sort of meet everyone:)

Normandy, I went to school in Miami... A great number of people from my high school attend UF as well, about 25% of those who go on to pursue postsecondary education. That's cool that you transferred from USF, what major are you? what were your stats (if you don't mind my asking); I hope to see you there, Cornell is definitely up there on my short list of schools I'd like to be at come next fall.

Hey yall!
Its the stargazing lily chick! Anyone remember me from the old board? Anyways, I'm here at Cornell and I'm having a total blast! (I transferred from the University of Tampa) It's hard work, but sooo much fun! If anyone has any questions or anything Ive been thru the process three times! (technically ;) so im more then willing to spout advice, whether or not it might actually help...

Your name seems familiar stargzrlilychk, but you probably don't know me, as I didn't really post much, at all in fact.. in the old board.

hey star, i remember reading your posts, you transfered for this spring right? how is it? how hard is it to assimilate into the student body as a transfer? what's your major? thanks for offering your assistance, it is very much appreciated.

-Eddie-

Eddie -

I'm an astronomy/physics major in CAS. My high school GPA was 4.6 weighted, 3.75 unweighted (or somewhere around there) and my GPA at USF was a 3.9. I had a 1270 SAT in high school, if that's relevant. I'm not sure what else to put! Let me know if you want something else.

Stargzrlilychk-

I think I remember you too, especially if you said you went to UT (I remember someone who was transferring from UT, and I can't imagine it would be more than one!) Where are you living? I don't know anyone else from Florida around here!

Thanks Normandy, that's cool. Where did you go to school? Tampa area? My stats are similar to yours (my hs weight is 5.23, uw is 3.65 or so; my UF gpa is 4.0, and my SAT is 1430). I hope I get accepted, I would love to be in Ithaca next fall. Nice talking to you, thanks for the help.

-Eddie-

Sounds like you're gonna be fine. What college are you applying to? That can make a difference.

College of Engineering as an Engineering Physics major. (will that ruin me?)

-Eddie-

Haha, good ol' AEP. Most of my classes have been AEP this year since the intermediate physics are the same, and I'm also taking the AEP Mathematical Physics course, which while being the most satisfying class I've ever had, is also the hardest. Ever. Last week the professor basically said to us that the material we were covering was at the graduate level. I have it a little bit better since I don't have to take some of the lab courses that my friends are taking (AEP 363), but we all get hit pretty hard. It is by no means an easy major, but if you have a good work ethic and time management skills, you should be okay. Good luck!

hey guys!
yea i transferred in this semester to ILR...and I havent found it to be that difficult to assimilate, however i think it would have been easier in the fall. This is only because there's so many more Fall transfers than spring. (theres only about 85 spring, as opposed to like 600 in the fall) And also it was a major pain to move all my stuff in amidst a blinding snowstorm. But so far I really like the people and my classes have been very interesting.

normandy- yep im the chick who transferred from UT! I'm living in the Transfer center, 4th floor. how bout u? where did u transfer from? did u just transfer this spring or in the fall?

Heeeey.....if I do end up getting in ::cross fingers::, do you recommend living the transfer center? A friend who already goes there told me to live in a program house, but she's not a transfer. What's your take on it? :)

star-

I transferred here last fall, living down on TC1. Come say hi! (I'm Dave in 1112)

LilacGirl-

If the transfer center is still here next year (I thought they were tearing it down, unfortunately) then definitely live here. The building itself isn't all that amazing, but you find people you can relate to pretty quickly. Good luck!

Tearing it down??? I heard they were expanding it! ::cross fingers:: Aw, well, I hope it's still there....it seems like the easiest adjustment.

They are expanding West Campus, but I think there will no longer be a transfer center, only transfer floors or wings of certain buildings. Don't quote me on this though. :-)

i see everybody here is competitive and i don't even start my essay. my first language is not english so every time when i want to write some i must draw a draft in my mothertone.

i plan to apply for CALS in fall 2005,but it seems so hard for me.could anyone tell me what kind of essay can be recognised as a special one?

yea with the west campus res initiative thing, there tearing down all of the class halls and putting up all new houses. asthetically, the transfer center is honestly pretty bad. the rooms are really small and cramped and they dont offer suites or anything. and the bathrooms are pretty beat too. however, it is by far one of the most social and fun dorms on campus. basically everyone knows each other and are VERY friendly. i think im going to go to the new alice cook house next semester or maybe one of the other new houses if theyre ready by then.
