Calling all UC experts...

So...could someone please explain how excelling in certain ACT and SAT tests can "satisfy" a-g requirements. Much Appreciated! :)

I have never seen that, and although I don’t claim to be an expert, I have read quite a bit about UC admissions. Where are you hearing this? For example, a high score on an AP test or SAT can get you out of freshman English, once you are admitted, but I have never seen anything about a SAT score replacing an a-g requirement.

I don’t understand your question, completing your A-G is mandatory. Getting a good SAT or ACT score is the subjective part of your application.

Basically you need a strong SAT/ACT AND 2 SAT Subject tests 700+. The subject tests are what do it. There’s a point calculator on their website that shows you how to add up your points and if you have exceeded x number of points then you can be eligible for admission without fulfilling all the requirements. I can’t find it now, but it’s somewhere in there. However, what I described (with the subject tests) is essentially what it takes.

I stand corrected…found this page that may be what you are looking for. Would still recommend checking out further:

Admission tests are independent of the a-g requirements, so you can score high on a test but if you don’t fulfill say the ‘g’ requirement, the UCs will not let you in.

In other words, taking admission tests and fulfilling the a-g requirements by taking the correct courses in your high school or local community college is the minimum of what you must do to get in to an UC
