Calling all Vandy Transfers! : )

I'm interested in any information, past experiences, or just gut feelings or opinions anyone might be willing to share regarding transferring into Vanderbilt.

I was accepted into Vandy and a couple of Ivy League schools first time around (though I ended up at a lesser northern university at which I'm happy - long story). Vanderbilt was originally my "dream" choice, but I turned them down because I had better offers of financial aid elsewhere.

I've rethought my decision, and am applying as a transfer student for my sophomore year. I have nearly all A's, am in an honors program, am a member of six different clubs and volunteer organizations, and intern at a local museum.

I'm hoping I stand a fairly decent chance the second time around, but I have VERY strong financial need. I'm really looking for insight on whether this could affect my chances as a transfer, and the type of experiences anyone's had with the office of financial aid either as transfers or as upperclassmen.

Whew, sorry so long! Thanks!

i think your best bet is to get in contact with a transfer officer and express your concern. i'd be willing to wager that they might end up going out of there way to see everything works out

My daughter is in the same boat you are, Lear's. She likes the school she chose, but to make a long story short ... she has decided that Vandy would be the best place for her. Like you, she was accepted & turned Vandy down for the other school. She hasn't had a lot of luck so far getting the info she needs from Vandy, but that may be due to timing (adcoms busy with ED). Do you know if the info sent with the original app can be used for transferring? Just having to add the college info/recs/etc., get the final high school transcript, & do the new essay would be a lot easier than having to reconstruct all the high school stuff that was already sent. Of course, she'll do it if need be ... but her guidance counselor retired & the ones that are left don't know her at all.

I would guess that financial need won't come into play. Vandy is very good with aid. Remember to look at actual costs when you are reviewing your aid package ... Vandy packages differently than a lot of schools, and the actual aid they give is really better than it looks on the surface. Pull out all the grant money & subtract it from actual tuition/room/board/fees costs. You may find that the bottom line is better than you thought.
