Calling all Yalies

er...that's really, really not true. I'm not defending the societies, they're kind of silly, actually, but I know lots of people who are not what you would call the most diligent people in the world. Sure, there are a couple people like that, but there are also a lot of popular frat boys, or people who have 'friends in high places' through family or just getting drunk with the right people. A lot of these kids really haven't done anything too great, or made themselves that well known outside their self-selective circles. I really do wonder where you get these perceptions...sounds like the kind of stuff the media loves to take off on, making the societies look really creepy and conspiracy-esque.

Ok. Nobody here really knows for sure. i'm just going off of what I've heard. Plus, if you didn't notice, I put in the post that "These could all just be made up stories" because I don't know.

To everybody who was interested or who have contacted me, I am not going to be doing this topic anymore. Thanks for all those of you who were willing to participate.

SkullandBones, do you mind sharing what you found?

i heard in skull and bones, the bonesmen masturbate in coffins and recite their entire sexual history to other members of the order. also, u'll see a staged "murder" and ordered to swear to keep everthing secret....also, they meet every thurs/sun evenings w/gourmet dinners and prostitute service...the order also has a summer home on deer island...><

u r tapped on the shoulder and asked "skull and bones, accept or reject?" ...

skull and bones - most prestigious
scroll and key - richest
book and snake - most "popular"/athletic/party-ish

SkullandBones, the Yale Rumpus recently published the Mace and Key website. You might want to take a look if you haven't already.

Brightfutureahead : "SkullandBones, do you mind sharing what you found?"

I couldn't get enough subjects to even do the research. But, from what I have already seen from asking around; there are typically three types of students: Those who don't care, those who want to be in them so bad that it hurts, and those that hate them.

Also, I heard that the coffin-masturbation thing doesn't happen anymore; but it sure did when Bush and Kerry were there.

Wow, Mace and Chain is not very secret; and whoever the society is in the Tap Night pictures. Just looks like a fraternity. Also, the list of names has a lot more societies than I thought there were. So, what's the skinny on these? Are there the big Societies like Bones, Scroll and Key, Wolfshead, Berzelius, and Book and Snake; plus little drinking societies?

Mace and Chain is a pretty prestigious society actually.
