Calling BK recipients

I am just trying to help out the kids. I am not techno savvy so I am not about to search past threads.

Our DS got President so I am of no help, however I do recall that many people on these threads were interviewing. If anybody can help them out from experience please post.

As parents we all sit on pins and needles to see if their dream comes true, and then we start calculating the cost.

Off topic...UMD stinks at merit IMHO. It was the lowest amount from any college, NYU Stern, U Miami Florida offered 10's of thousands more...Miiami was 88K compared to 8K for UMD. NYU was 44K (I think). We were OOS for all and he is in scholars.

S1 was offered the full B/K. (There are also B/K awards which cover $8k/year, but for purposes of the program and the supports, all B/Ks are treated the same.) Tuition, room, board, fees, book allowance, iTouch, and guaranteed housing all four years. Cost increases are covered by the scholarship. If one is a Maryland Distinguished Scholar (automatic for NMSFs), add another $3k/year. It is a VERY generous package for a flagship university. My recollection is that there are ~275 B/K awards in all.

I do not know what is happening this year in light of the economy and budget cuts.

The invite for a B/K interview comes after the acceptance. Interviews are in mid-March, and notifications are officially in early April, though I think we heard at the very end of March last year. S said the interview was very pleasant and that they really wanted to hear about his extracurricular activities.
