calling current ucla students: just got regents invite today...good sign?

i thought id move this from the general uc thread to the ucla thread...

To a ucla student or anyone w/ experience:

i just got the regents scholarship invitation from ucla today in the mail. i checked their website and it says they invite the top 1.5% (800 students?).

anyways, as a rule of thumb, does this mean i have a really good chance (if not an almost guaranteed chance) that i will get into ucla? i heard this from a couple of people, one of whom is attending ucla, but im kind of skeptical.

and just some stats...
i have 2300 sat and a 4.3ish gpa (dunno my uc gpa), i'm elc in a really competitive high school, and my extracurrics are alright, but not amazing or anything. my english teachers liked my essays.

thanks everyone. i greatly appreciate it.

dont they announce at the invite that u got accepted

ur in genius.

regents Lawl enjoy the food at the reception its le good.

my essays were terrible too and i got in. the invite basically means youre accepted and pretty much got regents.

Congrats. You're in.

It's safe to buy the T-shirt. Congratulations!

I got the invitation too but they asked for a letter of recommendation to compete for this regents scholarships. Anyone else was asked to provide a letter of recommendation?

those of you who got the invitation today: what state do you live in? are you in california?

It is standard to ask for a letter of recommendation.

With 800 freshman and unknown number of transferee getting invite, and only 100 regent scholarships, getting the regent is the exception rather than rule.

I got the invite too!!
I'm mildly surprised to be honest, I thought they based this entirely off of sat scores, and you would need a 2300 to get it, but I only have a 2200 (I know it seems silly to say only, but there seem to be a lot of people who score in 2200-2300 than 2300-2400). Though my weighted gpa is 4.7 (not sure about UC).

Considering UCLA accepts far more than 1000 people, I think we are fairly safe.

if you got the invite, you're in

you have like a 50/50 chance of actually getting the scholarship, thereafter.

just to clarify, it is only an invite to compete for the scholarship. with just the invite to compete, it's pretty safe to get the ucla t-shirt right?

haha sry for all this, just really want to go to la.

oh yea i am in california, la to be exact.

high fives I received one, too. It basically means we're in. If you read the letter carefully again, it says something along the line of, "the award with come with your admission in March." :)

I'm also in CA.

Question: Do we have to send in an official transcript?

no, just send in what they ask for.
I don't remember whether I even sent a transcript or not... if I did then it was an unofficial one.

and again if you got the invite, then yes, you got into ucla.

so the letter came out today, huh?

Darn....... I got 2100 and 4.0 UCGPA, so I guess that wasn't enough

How is it 50/50 chance of getting the scholarship if only 100 out of the 800 invited get it?

Congrats to everyone who got the UCLA Regents invite! :) Just wondering, to those who received an invite, are you from CA? SoCal to be exact? Thanks!

cuz its NOT 100 out of 800 you doofus, im a *ing regents scholar i would know this *.

when u get the list of regents scholars and you YOURSELF are a regents scholar you can PROBABLY tell the difference between 300-400 and just 100.

you clod!

Quite the ambassador!
