Do I need to call the admission if i want to come and visit a college?

Also is it possible while i will be visiting college to talk to admission officer, tell him all my stats act gpa etc and ask him if I have a good shot at getting into their college?

No, you don’t need to talk to an admissions officer to schedule a visit. Go to the school website to the admissions office page and usually you’ll see a “Visiting” information page. There will be instructions for signing up for information session and/or tours. Sometimes you do this online, sometimes you call and talk to an administrative person and sometimes you just show up. No statistics necessary!

i know its not necessary but I want to ask them and hear their criteria on how good im doing so far in order to get accepted in that college. Its basically I want them to chance me.

Well…you could try to schedule an interview, or you could find out which admissions officer covers your geographical region and contact them. I would be careful not to sound desperate or sound like you’re sucking up to them. This also isn’t the best time of year to contact admissions personnel frivolously, as they are working on current admissions decisions. Admissions statistics abound online for every college–you can see if your grades, course selection, test scores and rank are in their “range.” It would probably be in your best interests to have a relationship with admissions personnel based on your interest in the college and questions you may have about the school. No admissions person is going to tell you that you’re going to get in, which is ultimately what it sounds like you wan them to tell you.

I have a question though:
What if the site does not offer many options (ie class visits and such) for a college visit very far away? I am going very far, but the college does not offer much at this time of the year. Is it okay to call and email, because I dont want my trip be “wasted”.

You can call the admissions office and ask to speak with the admissions officer assigned to your area. You can request any type of visit you want. We usually asked to meet with a professor in the biology department. If there was an honors program, we asked for them to set up that meeting as well. Usually we would then end up with an admissions interview, an information session, a tour and a meeting with one or two members of the faculty. If you wanted, you could also ask to sit in on a class or have lunch with a student.

Namely, if you call and know what you want, most colleges are happy to help make your visit what you need it to be.
