I spoke with U of F yesterday who confirmed that mold in dorms is an over riding problem except in the newest ones. Any U/F students have some insight as to dorms and mold and which ones etc. I have asthma and my doctor says mold will be a big issue.

The only one that could possibly have mold is probably Buckman (no A/C and it very humid this time of year and during the summer, so mold would be able to grow) and Beaty (the roof had some serious leaking during Fall 04 huricane and carpets and ceiling tiles had to be replaced). I cant think of any other one that could have mold.

Well I don't know what to think because it was the housing office that told me so. I have asthma and I hate to rule out a tuition paid school if it really isn't such an issue. I guess that I am in the middle of the priority housing thing so they said the best I could hope for with a doctors letter is to get adorm with A/C. Thanks ASAMJ.

Anyone else heard that this is an issue. Getting down to the wire now

Yes, my friend who went to UF was in a dorm this year where his whole floor had a really bad mold problem. In the end he had to relocate because it was so bad, he ended up being sick for a week, even after he came home for a break. That's the only instance I've heard of, I'm not sure how widespread the problem ended up being. It must have been Beaty because I remember him telling me that the carpet in there and ceiling tiles ended up being replaced.

You're going to have the possibility of this anywhere you go in Gainesville, whether it is in one of the newest apartments or dorms on campus or an older place. Hume was built in like 2002 and one of the rooms had horrible mold a couple years ago because people didn't take care of their stuff. Just keep your stuff as clean and dry as possible and keep your eye on things - report any possible mold right away so it can be taken care of.
