Any ideas for a CalMail Account Name?
I don't want to do the first name, last name or first initial, last name deal.

What have you guys used as yours?

Any ideas for a CalMail Account Name?
I don't want to do the first name, last name or first initial, last name deal.

What have you guys used as yours?

first letter of first name, then last name.

it's a berkeley email address! make it a formal one.

Your CalMail account is not an opportunity to get incredibly creative. Think about the impressions you want to make when you give employers or others your Berkeley email address.

What impressions does giddygal@berkeley.edu make as opposed to janedoe@berkeley.edu? (Note, these are FAKE addresses!)

Calmail addresses, like the above just mentioned, are meant to be formal. I went with first, middle initials, and my last name. I'd keep it as simple as possible.

Well, I wasn't thinking of giddygal, but I was thinking of perhaps just my first name and 2010, or something along those lines. Is that still too informal?

yes, generally people make it first name last name. why bother with numbers?

i did my first name-initial of my last name@berkeley.edu

If your name is unavailable, that is, it's now used by someone, then you can insert a number or two. But if it's not, just use your name.

But I should mention that the ultimate decision is yours...LOL You can do whatever you want with your own email. :)

You can pick anything you want. If fact you can have a formal and an informal name linked to the same account.

For example I have 3 names; one I give to friends that's easy to type and easy to remember; one for the directory, professsors, and employers; and another that's anonymous for sites like this.

Just go here: https://calmail.berkeley.edu:50100/cgi-bin/display/login_page.html

matt30, how can you have 3?

i thought only two email addresses.

No, you can have up to 3 alias'. Thats 4 differnet e-mail adresses.

Do u have a link? I remember visiting one page a month or so ago and it says u can have one alias.

Yeah you can have up to three aliases. Click on the link Matt30 gave, log in, and click on "set up an alias." It states that you can have a maximum of 3 aliases for your account.

I heard that you can have name@calmail.berkeley.edu or just name@berkeley.edu. which one do most people have?

The simple one. You can actually have more than that (there are several differnet pop3 servers at berkeley) but the calmail server (which is new) is avalible to most all students.

JimBob@calmail.berkeley.edu goes to the same place as JimBob@berkeley.edu

<--- pusykat69@berkeley.edu

If you're a spring admit, do you get your email address later? I've been trying to authenticate my CalNet ID but it keeps saying that my ID number is unlisted.

im a spring admit and i have had my Calnet ID for 2 months now. I made my email address about a month ago.

Oh...this isn't good. Did you go to the directory and authenticate your ID number then make an account? It keeps telling me to authenticate but I can't.
