How many math courses does the undergraduate (Upper & Lower Division) major require? Would one Statistics course be adequate? Thank you.

[Let me google that for you](<a href=“LMGTFY - Let Me Google That For You”>LMGTFY - Let Me Google That For You)

Thanks: “Methods Requirement: Students must take PS 3, Intro to Empirical Theory and Quantitative Methods.”

Is that the math requirement?

What’s PS 3, Intro to Empirical Theory and Quantitative Methods?

It’s pretty easy imo… xD

You don’t need any math classes. PS3 is kinda like a easier stats course for PS majors and the only mathy class you ever need to take :)

Would you recommend any professors for PS3, StarryNights? I’m terrible at math.

PS3 is the class of the devil.

Take Stoker, she’s the best option. She places more emphasis on the methods of research than stats.

There’s been talk that Stoker may not teach the course in the near future. And since it’s only offered once a year don’t wait for her.

The other professors tend to concentrate on stats. If I remember correctly, the only book for PS3 this semester was a stats book.

I took it with Gailmard and pretty much got 100% on the midterm… I took PS C135 last semester and thought that PS3 really prepped me for that class. Gailmard teaches Game Theory and only basic stats, so he’s different from other profs. He’s more qualitative, there’s no real calculations in his questions, more like describe how something might work.

But honestly, Gailmard spent 2 lectures (3 hours) explaining the difference between mean, median, and mode… and 4 lectures on what a histogram was… So, I think you’ll be fine if you ask questions and think about things carefully.

It’s one of the easiest classes I’ve taken at Cal Don’t worry about it. I got Bs in math in High School and haven’t taken any maths since and I did fine xD

^ LOL okay good, 'cos I’m taking it in the Summer and unlike you, I got Fs in math all the way through high school (don’t worry, I got in here 'cos other things made up for it, but still…)

Hopefully it helps that I did “advanced” stats in high school ><

If we took AP Stats in high school and got a 4/5 on the AP test do you think PS3 will be relatively easy?

^ It’ll probably be too easy for you :)

I never took stats in high school and did fine.
