CALS question

Are new york state residents more favored in the admission process? So lets say a california resident... does he/she has less chance of getting in than a new york state resident for cals?

No. If you think about it, they actually lose tuition money to accepted NYS residents. I don't think there's a quota, if that's what you're getting at. It just happens to be that a lot of NYSers join the state-funded colleges because they are aware of that nice benefit, so more kids from NYS are applying than kids from any other state.

ummm actually i was told that NYS students have a better chance of getting accepted to the state-funded schools, just like state schools.

all of my time spent with admission for one of the contract colleges has led me to believe that there's no quota of any sorts for NY state residents. Being from NY will not make it any eaiser to get into one of these colleges.

in fact, I know that the contract colleges are trying to pull in more out of state applicants to round out the class a little bit more.

Currently, you might have a better chance applying from out of state than within state. The three contract colleges are not only top-notch but the best of their kind in their respective programs.
