I was planning on apply to the college of arts and sciences, but learned that the CALS and the college of Human Ecology are significantly easier to get an acceptance. Which one has the higher acceptance rate?
Apply to whichever college best fits your interests and intended courses of study. Don’t try to game the system by applying to the college with the higher acceptance rate. The acceptance rates are all low.
@Temmsmp358 Here is the link for admissions statistics to the different colleges at Cornell University.
http://irp.dpb.cornell.edu/tableau_visual/admissions Thanks to @blevine and others on CC for finding and posting it on other threads for Cornell. It is a very informative and helpful link. It has admissions statistics, including graphic descriptions for the past 12 years for each college at Cornell. My daughter is going to be applying to Cornell this Fall, so i am interested in looking at this as well. Human Ecology’s acceptance rates for Fall 2015 and 2014 were 20.7% and 25%, respectively. CALS acceptance rates were 13.5% and 14.7%, respectively. Interestingly, in 2013 and in prior years, Human Ecology’s acceptance rate was approx. 31%, so admissions has gotten more difficult at that school in recent years. The admissions statistics do not break down Early Decision versus Regular Decision acceptance rates. But it is likely that applying ED will give your admissions chances a boost at both of these colleges while applying RD will make your chances more difficult due to lower admissions rates.
As @Ranza123 said, gaming the system won’t work for you, Cornell knows when someone applies to one of the colleges because they have a legitimate interest in a study there, and when they’re just trying to get in the “easy way”. Pro tip: there is no easy way. As a specific example, I will soon start my freshman year in the College of Human Ecology. Human Ecology STRONGLY suggests that you apply with a specific major, as HumEc is very concerned with fit. Someone with my exact credentials would have a good chance of getting into the Policy Analysis and Management major (the major I have declared in) in HumEc, but perhaps not so easily into Landscape Architecture, which is in CALS. Apply where’s best for you.
